I do and it scares the sh!t out of me because I deep down believe that death is being not there, like before you were born. I want to believe in a religion, but no matter how hard I try there is always that doubt. So at least once a day when I get bored, I start to think about it and it scares me out of my mind. Has this happen to anyone else? Any way to stop it?

Don't fear it, don't usually think about it.

But reading the meteor thread earlier got me thinking...it would suck so bad to know we were all going to do die in like...1 day..and we wouldn't be able to do anything about it :Q

I'm an atheist and sometimes at night when I'm alone in my bed with the lights out....I imagine not existing. Quite frankly it scares the sh!t outta me. In the waking hours I can fool myself into believing that there has to be something beyond the here and now. At night when I am most lucid(or most hallucinagenic, take your choice) I realize that once I die there's nothing. It's liberating in a way. I realize that carpe diem is more than just a catch phrase. It means so much when you believe that the present is the end all be all. In short, yes and yes.

Yes and yes. It's just so hard to believe that we'll go to Heaven. However I keep my hopes up and try my best to keep the faith if you know what I mean. And yes, I don't think of dying like I want to die but I do wonder about death. Especially with the news, the war, my grandfather's passing, etc.

If it is so hard to believe, just stop believing.

I really don't think much about death. But I really don't know if I fear it. I know I wouldn't embrace it, but I really don't think I'm afraid of it. I guess I haven't really been in any life threatening situations to know how I REALLY feel about it.

I'm an agnostic so I have no faith in any kind of afterlife. I don't fear death though, since if I'm dead either:
(a) there is an afterlife, woohoo!
-or-
(b) all we are is dust in the wind, but I'm dead, so I don't know or care.

Like many people, I fear pain, suffering, and loss of ability (losing sight, getting Alzheimer's) much more than death itself.

I don't fear death, and i'm an atheist. I accept the fact that when i'm gone, i'm gone. I think you'll find that atheists are more likely to not fear death than other people.

As for how often do i think about it... pretty often to be honest. Sometimes i do think it'll be so much easier to just let go of everything. And no i'm not depressed. I don't have suicidal tendencies or anything, and will never willingly kill myself.

I agree with you completely up to this point. Except I'd consider myself more agnostic than athiest.

Exactly. At 11 i was scared of death, and i would constantly have thoughts and anxiety of losing my parents... not that they die, but that they'll cease to exist, ever again. But eventually you learn that since you have no control over it, why stress over it? Why worry over something you have absolutely no control over.
