POLL: Do you believe in life after death?

After I Die, others will still be Alive. So yes, there is Life after Death.

Too much energy is spent worrying about the "After Life". The Here and Now is what's important.

However, can a soul be made from nothing?

I mean, our population keeps growing, so is there a finite number of possible souls, or are souls "born" when our consciousness is born.

Also, if we die as an infant, is our soul in infant form? If there is indeed a form of consciousness after death, does this consciousness take the form of how we were when we died? If so, and we die with extreme Alzheimers, will our souls remember our parents?

Arghghghhghgh

How I wish there was a heaven
All for one and one for all
A flawless soul society
Our lives are just a fragment
Of the universe and more
There may be more than we can see

No, I don't. I want there to be one, however.

Whoa, I am slightly shocked by the poll results.

I thought "No" would be in the lead, given the generally logical, science minded people here, although I guess it is fairly close.

Gotta wait until all the vampire atheists come out tonight, I guess. 😉

Life after death? That's kind of a contradiction in terms, dontcha think? So, no.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt that you meant existence though, and voted 50/50. On that, I cannot and will not speculate. Hell, even later Star Trek episodes hypothesized on the idea of "neural energy" surviving after death. Sounds like nonsense, but reality is little more than a shared hallucination, so who the hell knows? Maybe it is a dream and we "wake up." Or maybe we switch off like TV's. We will all discover the truth eventually, so I won't waste much time worrying about it between now and then.

Yep.

Nope, I'm worried about not existing anymore. I like life.

But you know for a complete and utter fact that it WILL happen.
Worrying about it or being afraid of it seems a bit silly... almost like being scared that the sun will rise tomorrow.

Why does the inevitability of something make it suddenly ok? Because it HAS to be ok?

I for one don't relish the thought of what it's going to be like when all the lights finally wink out and there is nothing. I try to think about what it's going to be like and I realize that I can't. There's no way I can imagine not existing. It's going to be like nothing. It seems almost criminal for it to end like that.

I hope it doesn't, but when I get down to what I really expect there it is. Contemplating it for any period of time scares the fvck out of me. This thread has officially creeped me out.

This is pretty much my stance too, even though I voted no.

The answer is that none of us that are living know. It's kinda a paradox.

I, too, simply just chose not to think about it too much. I'm not afraid of death itself, although I certainly don't find the idea of ceasing to exist very pleasing.. Mostly because of the survivors that will be affected, or the idea of what I would miss if I died young.

All I know is that if you want to live, live now. Don't sit on your ass waiting for an afterlife, it may never come. And if it doesn't, you won't be around to know, you're dead.

If there is, cool. I hope there's booze.

Voted "don't know".
