didn't buy me a car in high school. however we had 5 cars with only my parents as drivers. so when i turned 16, i got to use the 93 accord.

before i started my 2nd year of college, they did buy me a new 2000 accord.

in a year or less, i'll probably give them back the 2000 accord and buy my own lexus.

Actually yes. They bought me a 65 Cadillac in 72 when I was 18 from my Cousin who owned a wrecking yard. Now that was a cool car to have back then.

They bought me a 98 Dakota when I was 16, then I totalled it.
Then handed down another car when I got my license back in November 2001.

No, i didn't even have a car in college. (i just graduated).
the first thing i buy once i land a job is probably a car.

take a bus, subway, train, light rail, boat? i'm looking for jobs locally .
the transit here in the bay area is excellent.

I voted yes. Though they didn't actually purchase me a car, I'm getting my brothers Camry and mah rents are buying him a new car. So I didn't have to pay anything. And they are going to pay for insurance too.

No. I've bought all my own cars.

same here,
when i was a senior,i bought a 10 year old pickup,it had a cap on the back, 😉

i then bought an 11 year old car,and shortly thereafter sold the truck,as,it needed a camshaft. 🙁

And used my money,i earned myself.

No, I was handed down the family car, 1987 Toyota Cressida when I was 16 and still driving it today (21 now). Over the years, it has lost AC, the driver side door cannot be opened, transmission busted, passenger windows won't roll down. Asked my parents to get transmission fixed, they just yelled at me.

My sister back then turned 16 and got a 1997 Honda Accord. Reason, they said she needed a reliable and safe car. Maybe some day I will afford a new car. 🙁

My dad bought me a 95 Grand Prix from a friend for a few thousand. The trade-off: I have to pay for all my own meals at school (HS still), any groceries that "only I use" (milk was on that list), gas/maintenance for the car of course, piano lessons, and, oh yeah, a little thing called college.

Not saying they didn't spoil me with the car, but I'm not a spoiled individual. (just covering for the flames that would ensue 😉)

Nope. I got a loan and bought my '69 Ford Bronco for $2300.
That's a lot of $$ for a '69 Bronco! Oh, wait, I see . . . 😛

Not really. It was in decent shape (floor was rusted out, though).

Nice 302 in it, 3-on-the-tree, stock wheel-wells, none of this flared bullshit.

I sold it about 10 years later for $2000. 🙁 I wish I had the money/time that I could have restored it.

It would be now!! awesome car what model? I want a 60 eldorado barritz so bad.

I was very lucky:

1) Learned to drive on an old ford pickup (stick). My father sold it before I got my license. (got my license in '89)
2) Father bought an old '78 Dodge Colt. I slagged the engine in about a year.
3) Father bought an old '87 Plymouth Horizon (also known as the Dodge Omni). After 3 years I wrecked it.
4) Father gave me his '88 Plymouth Horizon and said "After this you are on your own."

I kept that last car until '97 when I started buying my own cars.

My Dad is a swell guy! 🙂 I'm going to follow his example and give my children cheap used cars to drive when they get their licenses.

I bought my first car myself, but it was a lemon unfortunately. My mom gave me $3000 and we bought a used Honda Civic SI that lasted 4 years and 100k miles when I sold it for $1000 still running.

I got my sister's car when she went to an out of state college. Even though it had no power windows or locks, i was happy just to have a car.😀

Nope.

When I'm a junior in college I think the plan is to give me my mom's (I currently drive it more than she does 😉) 2000 Volvo S40. So uh, I still have another 2 years or so since I'll be a freshman in college this year.
