No, people don't like California because they are jealous of our incredibly beautiful state, our fine weather and our hot women. Either that or they've never actually been here and are just talking out of their a$$holes.

I love how this thread turned into another California versus Texas thread.

What I find funny is that there is no shortage of californians who criticise the U.S. in general (and rant about Texans) for having this very same attitude.

Please, stop being hypocritcal....I think you califonrinans are showing a bit of mullet on this one.

Well when most of these rubes think of CA they think of LA and Hollywood, that's the reason for their ignorance.

Some of these dweebs actually spent a few weeks in CA so they think they know, which is BS. It's like when I first visited Boston, I thought I knew but after living here for 3 years I have a whole new perspective about Boston, MA and New England in general.

Well, having spent ~1.5 years in SoCal, I can say this: Californians are very shortsighted about the world outside of CA, but they are also more politically open and willing to consider dissenting opinions than northeasterners are (and I spent the first twelve years of my life, along with numerous later visits in NY).

I don't rant about Texas or Texans...unless they say something stupid to deserve it.

As for criticizing the U.S. in general? I criticize the government and our leaders from time to time but I don't criticize the U.S. in general.

When I think of California, I think of Hollywood and the liberal elite, yes, but I also think of the hippie bastion of San Francisco, the wacky 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the LA Mayor and former chairman of MEChA Antonio Villaraigosa, the smog and the inability to solve their energy crisis by investing in new facilities.

Not all of us are ignorant. Yeah, it's got nice weather, but that's about it.

SoCalers think they live in Wonderland so they don't bother worrying about other areas including NorCal.

Personally I don't like SoCal because it's lost it's Americana flavor and has become more Hispanic or Asian in culture plus it's too damn crowded.

Hollywood is a mess, they should just build a wall around the city of Los Angeles (including the mayor's office) up to the west side and not let anyone in that area contaminate the rest of society. San Francisco is a beautiful city but it is waaay too liberal. Unfortunately, I don't see the Republicans doing anything to try to help their cause either. Both sides are completely inept and nothing gets done. At least the governator can veto the whacky legislation that comes out of Suckramento.

The smog isn't as bad as it used to be in the 1970s.

California is the 6th largest economy in the world. The U.S. would definitely be hurting without us.

Everything in CA is so much nicer than here it's not funny. Even the worst day in CA beats the best day in Boston hands down ! I challenge you to find one single good thing about living in this shiathole of a place !

Hell being a perv I'd think you and your wife would be a good fit in Hollywood, you'd probably find better looking couples to swap with than the podunks in your state..:laugh:j/k

Yes you are ignorant, there is much much more tp CA than SF, Hollywood and LA (I like visiting SF but wouldn't want to live there) And the 9th Circuit is just located there, it's not made up of Californians. I also hear the enviroment isn't too great in your larger cities in Texas either as far as pollution goes.

There are also large areas that are predominantly conservative like Cemtral CA and Orange County, hell the most popular Conservative President ever came from CA and was it's Govenor for two consecutive terms.

Finally to judge Californians based ion thiose who live in Hollywood or Berkley would be like judging Texas based on Lee Harvey Oswald, Jack Ruby and G.W. Bush

Yeah, more or less. Texas too.

Californians are JUST LIKE Texans, they just won't admit it to themselves.

We, unlike Texas, have valid reasons to be boastful

Funny, that's exactly what the Texans say.

You're no different. Both states have arrogant self images that are no different from what most foreigners hate about America in general.

Actually, most foreigners love California and want to visit here.
And there are an awful lot of Texans here in California, 'cause Texas sucks so bad.
I want to see Treasure Island in SF made into Hotel/Casino/resort, and then Nevada can finally dry up and blow away.
And as for all of the businesses that are leaving California for Nevada, name one?

I'm from the Bay Area and I love it. Many friends and family have left the bay for college and work. All of them ended up coming back because there is no place like home.

Having lived in both Boston and SoCal, I can honestly say I prefer Boston. What are the good things about Boston you say?

  • Boston has a sense of history and culture. SoCal is just endless preplanned communities, shopping malls and more shopping malls.
  • The North End, the Commons, Back Bay, the Theatre District...endless nightlife all a T stop away...SoCal, you have to drive EVERYWHERE...and there are not many clubs in Orange Country save for the beautiful people hotspots...and the clubs in LA leave me unimpressed, as do their patrons...and roudy Boston drunks make far better fellow patrons then LA and OC coke heads
  • Nicer people in Boston...it's true...I knew all of my neighbors in my apartment complex in Boston, and made small talk with them frequently...I have tried to do the same with my neighbors in California, and they look at me like I am crazy.
  • Better drivers in Boston...sure, northeast drivers are more aggressive and rude, but I would take Boston drivers over these SoCal idiots who insist on playing "Fast and the Furious" on the freeways in their riced out imports...or the OC Stepford wives shuttling their spoiled brat kids in their oversized SUVs
  • The weather is better in Boston, but that is because I am partial to actually having seasons, particularly the Fall...sure 70s and sunny is nice, but it gets old after a while...and I would take a snowstorm in Boston over the warm blowdryer Santa Ana winds any day of the week
  • The music scene is actually better in Boston...I wrongly assumed that because so many bands get their start in LA, that the music scene out here would be incredible...wrong...considering its size as a city, Boston has a far better music scene
  • No ridiculous celebrity worship in Boston
  • The women in SoCal may be more beautiful, but they are also incredibly shallow, plastic, materialistic and fake...would take an educated Boston girl over one of these OC bimbos any day of the week...oh wait, I already did.

That being said, I do love San Diego and San Francisco...but that's because those cities remind me more of the Northeast, and have the same appeal as Boston, just without the snow.

If Los Angeles and the OC simply imploded, I would probably love California.

Sure, if they legalize prostitution in california
It already is to an extent...the trophy wives of the SoCal elite are really no different then common whores...just with access to better plastic surgeons and shopping malls.
