Do you believe your download speed is affected by your upload speed ? You can throttle your upload speed with the experimental client.

I have a capped upload at home so I can only give about 15KBps upload max total. My download speeds are HARDLY EVER above 20KBps with various tv eps. I'm downloading the HALO2 demo movie from work and they are flying. Is this because my upload speeds are high too ? Or is it simply the fact that there is a lot of bandwidth for these new/desirable torrents ?

Are they trying to lie to us saying that our download rate is proportional to our upload rate ?

When I get something off there it slows down alot when Im uploading, I use a program called Net Limiter that allows me to control any uploading on my computer... not just bittorrent.

At work though there is no need for Net Limiter, my upload is much faster than my download is..

If you set your upstream TOO high it borks your downstream. Trust me on this.

With my 768/128 connection, I averaged 15K up/ 10-25K down.

With the experimental client, I set upstream to 8K max (select "dialup" not "DSL") and I've gotten downloads as high as 45-50K, without screwing up my connection speed.

Oh, some of you may have noticed that one of the major torrent sites gets congested often. I suggest you donate to help them upgrade their equipment. Even if 1/3 of the users donated just $5 they could easily have enough to upgrade.

yeah, the Smallville torrent is really slow for me too...

and as for the original question, yeah, I think it's supposed to affect things, but I haven't really paid enough attention to know for sure...hard to tell when so much depends on how many people are also seeding/dling the same torrent.

I don't mean it's slow.... it won't connect to the tracker at all.

Mine won't connect to the tracker either.

Leave the Torrent client up for it... sometimes I go to bed with an error connecting to tracker but leave it open, only to find it has started the download when I wake up in the morning. Someone will re-seed them if they're dead. If it's a new tracker, try again later.

I tried BitTorrent ... but even after leaving it on for an hour, it always uploads at 60k/s and downloads at some single digit like 7k/s. If I even got to a 1:1 ratio, I would leave it on.

I've been able to get about 400K/sec down while only uploading around 10K/sec. The most I've uploaded at is around 70K/sec.

Nope I don't think so, well not all the time anyways as long as there are people seeding the file then I can get decent speeds. My upload on there was at 60kbps the other day while my download was at 200 kbps. I would say that the more people downloading it the better your speeds will be cause you are downloading the files off them.

I'm currently uplaoding at 104k/sec on a file that I finished downloading half an hour ago.
