<< what about Gandalf the gray/white vs. Bruce Lee?
sure Gandalf can blow up great things, but bruce lee was so fast!!! 😕
>>

or Gandalf vs. Coke? not sure about that one.....

ElFenix, Gandalf received the ring when he first came to Middle Earth, it was given to him by Cirdan at the Havens. But when it comes down to it, Gandalf was specifically said to be less powerful than even Saruman before he took mortal form. He was however wiser since he had spent so much time studying in the halls of Mandos and the gardens of Lorien.

No way you guys are lost the Wizard of Oz would waste everybody hands down.

What are you guys smokin 😉

If you've never heard of Raistlin, then you have no business in voting 🙂

The man was as others have said, more powerful than many Gods. Gandalf would be utterly decimated by Raistlin.
The ONLY chance that you would really have of defeating Raistlin was if you somehow managed to get close to him and render his magics useless. He was very physically frail, a trade off for all of his power.

<< The man was as others have said, more powerful than many Gods >>

and that is why every dragonlance book after the first 3 sucks.

You forgot Rasputin.
Not really a wizard to be honest, nor does he have any really remarkable powers other than being really evil and conniving, but he can take a hell of a beating. 🙂

You gotta be kidding. LEGENDS, the SECOND trilogy is where he BECAME A GOD. How could you say that sucked? That was the height of his powers!

Raistlin....he would find a way to make all the others kill each other off untill there was just one left, weak and tired from all the fighting (Gandalf would be my guess to be left after killing all the others), and then he would finish him off!!!

peace

exactly! theres no credible threat to raistlin! at all! just like rand al'thor, the books suck now because its not really believable that he could be killed! matt is by far the most interesting character because he can be killed and is in believable danger! superman went through it so they had to invent kryptonite to make superman intersting and increase readership.

<< jobberd, The Maia sent from the West could probably destory Sauron, but they were only allowed to aid/advise the races of Middle-earth. And the Balrog is nearly as powerful as the Dark Lord himself, Gandalf seemed to take care of him with relative ease 😀
(yes im stretching stuff here but the point is Yoda wouldn't stand a chance)
>>

have you considered the fact that Yoda is REAL while the rest of those listed are fantasy characters?????!!!!! 😛

hey how about the "Wizard" from that 1988-ish movie with Fred Savage about that kid who was this NES whiz?

And the secret game of the movie was Super Mario Bros 3!

That wizard would blow everyone out of the water

Does anyone remember PUG. I can't remember the series or the name of any of the books in the Series. but he was hella powerful too.

I voted for gandalf the grey/white but in retrospect i think Raistlin by far was the most powerful in that particular universe. but mostly cause that universe was sooo limited.

i mean, gandalf the grey/white was powerful, but no where near the gods of tolkiens universe.

but i still like pug, i remember the story mosty, i just can't remember the title. 🙁

Bah, who cares about wizards. Son Goku could whoop them all. Sure they may be strong, but once he blows up the planet they are on... 😀

BTW, I would vote for Raistlin, but Gandalf's a much more interesting character. Who knows what Gandalf the White could have done had he lost some of those morals that held him in check.

My vote goes to Raistlin. It's true that once he is unstoppable, then there isn't any credible threat to him. But you don't find out that he wins (or was capable of winning when Caramon looked into the future) until the end of Legends. So you don't *know* that he's unstoppable, and thus the books are interesting.

Plus, I just love the whole time travelling, soul stealing power paradox in that series. I won't give any spoilers in this thread, because you guys really need to get the DragonLance Chronicles trilogy and the DragonLance Legends trilogy. The latter is focused on Raistlin and his twin brother Caramon.

ok

now i got it, it was Raymond Feist THE MAGICIAN starring PUG the Magician. I think he may have been the MOST POWERFUL wizard. I think he should at least be in the poll.

heh.. if yer gonna get into the whole jedi thing... vader was NOT the most powerful... heck... palpatine was way stronger then vader.. he managed to turn vader from good to evil and was unfortunatly caught off guard in the end by a suicidal attack... but there were more powerful then him.. dont have time to flip through my books right now 😀

bsolute power corrupts absolutely.

The interesting part of reading these novels is the fact that when they become so powerful, the only real danger to them is they themselves. It's interesting to see how their character develops and responds to the fact that they have so much power. In Raistlin's case, he finally realized that be defeating the gods, he would rule absolutely over nothing. This isn't what he wanted, and that's what caused him to stop his endeavor.

In Rand al'Thor's case, which is yet to be seen, the reason why it's still interesting is because you don't know if he will kill himself. The only real credible threat to him is himself (and maybe gholam), and we have no idea how much his last "project" (from book 9) drained him or if it actually fully worked. Furthermore, the series has so many other interesting characters such as Mat, Perrin, Lan, Egwene, Elayne, Galad, Moiraine, that there's a lot more to it than simply having Rand do this, Rand do that.

But anyway... Raistlin would still own all.
