Kinda. I really want to go tell off the Best Buy and CompUSA sales reps. Last christmas, Some guy was pusing Emachines :| I literally bit me tounge.

At school, I don't talk about it, except in my C-Sci class. One guy has a site on watercooling. Apparently though functional, his rig isn't pretty. Anyhow...

[soup nazi voice]NO FREE TECH HELP FOR YOU!![/voice]

Nope.

It's not to show of, it's just that computers, science and technology stuff is so much more interesting to talk about 😉

Yeah, it's not just computers...it's science and technology stuff as well. Hell, I subscribe to Scientific American and Sky & Telescope!

Last time helped somebody out with my "knowledge", actually I just unchecked one silly checkbox and saved them from becoming AOHell slaves, I got a free haircut. 😀 If you make careful picks this knowledge can save some money.

I am already known around the school for being a computer freak but I must admit that I take a particular sadistic joy in administering "tech support".

first of all, whenever demonstrating something to a person, always take the hardest and most time consuming way so that he/she will repeat this procedure for the rest of his life.

2. keep the gibberish coming so you can watch meaningless acronyms spread across the school.

3. always find one way or another of leaving a backdoor onto his computer or "acidentally" mess up one of his settings which will only be discovered in a month or so.

4. be as cryptic and condesending as you can when talking to the person.

and last of all, never, ever look away from your computer while fixing his. If you really must look away, start an email and type the email while looking at his screen. It will be very disconcerting for many people.

Enjoy your newfound abilities to use your knowledge for good(for yourself of course) rather than evil!

not embaressed, but difintly don't boast brag about it. It's such a pain to have to answer peoples questions, when they don't know what their asking,.. . I go over people's houses, and get hounded to fix pc's, electronics, help them pick out this or that. Other day i was picking up my pop's from the dentist, and i walk in the door, and their like "our system crashed, i can't shut it down." i go "did you hold the power off button for 5 seconds" she goes, "yes i held it in for 10 sec" and it promptly shut down on 10. then it kept gettting an error msg, and i wasn't behind the desk couldn't see it too well, she kept restarting and stuff, then i figured out it was a non system disk error, i said "you have a disk in there", "NO I do NOT!, well i don't know how to check actually." I walked around the desk and ejected the disk, and tried to hustle out of there as windows kicked up.

Im glad my Gf doesn't have a pc, or anything more complicated than a DVD/Satelite,which she knows how to use. and she knows how to program the PC's at the bowling alley too, so I know she can learn. Only thing Is she don't have a cell phone, so it's a pain to reach her.

I hate talkin about computers also but only cause everytime someone else finds out I know alotta crap about em they want me to help them with some problem they have with theirs.

I am proud to know a lot about computers. I love it when the techs come to for for advice 🙂 I should become a tech and get paid more.

Its hard to be humble when you are me !!!! 😀

Seriously, charge for what cost you so much to learn. Ill help anyone out once or twice and even feel obligated to if I advised them on a piece of gear but people will take advantage and use you.

I bought the books, I have spent the time so I feel justified.

Love to go to stores ans listen to what they tell folks or have them try to close on me when they barely know how. Keeping quiet and listening is great fun.

If I ever think I'm fairly knowledgable about computers, a quick trip to the Hardware Forum is all I need to put me in my place.

Right, Raspewtin

The more you know, the more you realize how little you know. (But you know where to go to get the answers)

I refuse to vote in the poll on account of the poll option saying Bill Gates is the smartest man alive.

An insult to the true computer gurus. Bill Gates is for the most part a business man with no extraordinary computer talent. Yes, I'm sure he's knowledgeable and got on the ground floor with the whole selling software idea -- but he didn't code DOS or anything (even if he did, that's still not enough credibility)

Nah....I don't like bust out new computer news or anything like that for no reason, but some of my friends know a little bit(like that the Athlon is by AMD and the Pentium is by Intel🙂), and when they try and tell me things about computers, it's fun to rip them apart 🙂

yes, I feel embarrassed that I talk about it too much... make me looks like I don't know anything else other than computers.

Here is what I say if someone who knows me wants me to help them fix their computer:
$30 an hour if they want me to fix their computer.
$45 an hour if they want me to fix their computer and they want to watch.
$60 an hour if they want me to fix their computer and they want to help.
$150 an hour if they want me to fix their computer AFTER they already tried.

😀

Yeah I took vacation for a week and worked on computers 4 of those days, the only advantage is it ended up paying for the trip and making me about a hundred bucks to boot.

I hate when people who talk about computers think they know stuff when they know nothing at all.

Amen brother.

I'm not embarrassed about it but I don't shoot it out either. Like other I don't want to become a tech support center for all the people I know.

I work as a web developer so most of my friends assume that I'm a hardware guru. They come to me all the time with questions. My answer. "What do want me to do? Write a program to fix it.". I know software people!

yeah. i know so little. (not kidding). i had no idea how a vacuum tube worked in one conversation. =(
