Well, yes and no... so I have difficulty answering the poll. It depends on the situation.... but for the most part, I'm pretty much a hopeless technogeek, and there's no use hiding it.
Who I work for: Dell Computer Corp.
Job: PowerEdge Server Technical Support.
Unless I lie through my teeth, it comes out. Much less, I don't mind being asked a couple of things here and there. No one has really hit me up too much, and I stay the hell away from building systems for family. The only one that I have changed that on is for my wife. Since I'm in the same house, I can fix it conveniently. Not like a relative's place 45 minutes driving each direction.
Also, my brother, my dad and I are all geekage to the max, have home networks setup, cable modems, several systems at the house. (My dad is @ 5 desktops and 2 laptops) I'm @ 3 desktops and 1 laptop... not sure how many my bor has right now) It's a family thing..... except for my mom. She hates it when we get together and run off to "the back", never to be heard from again.
We have trips to Fry's for geekout sessions, last one we put together Kt7-Raid board and 900 Tbird box. It's great in that each of us have our area of specialty. I'm more of the overclocking / desktop guru, but getting into servers. My dad is really amamzing with Unix / Linux and Oracle Databases, with alot of math / business background. My bro is uber sysadmin, networking and all that.
What can I say.. geek by genetics. Tried to fight it for years, but in certain instances, I know how to play dumb when the occasion calls for it.
