Poll: Are you embarrassed about your computer knowledge?

So are you?

Whenever my friends talk about computers I tend to try to ignore them. I never talk about computers in public out loud or something. Only with my dad. So, what about you?

"computer knowledge? i have no knowledge whatsoever...😉"

that's what i say when someone asks me for help, cuz i know that i would be spending the rest of the nite explaining to them what to do if i said yes.

unless of course it was a hot chick...😉

i dont' know enough 🙁

this is y u only see me in the off topic or hot deals section... i can't help anyone that needs help... i only like reading hot deals 🙂

I use to help mass people on AT. But the OT section is too addicting and any posts in other sections are scarce comming from me 🙂

Well, to a couple of my more understanding, more geeklike friends I talk about computers, especially with a couple who are trying to build their own. With some of my stupider friends who would make fun of me for my hobby I just ignore them when they talk about how cool version 6 of the interent (AOL) is.

Being embarrassed about it? That idea seems so foreign to me. I'm proud of what I know and what I'm learning. I do get irritated when people constantly nag me for tech support, though.

Well, I don't have many that are geek like me. Actually, I know more chicks than the whole people I hang out know combined.:Q I guess cause I don't show it. They bring gaming magazines, Gameboys, Computer Magazines and the works!! The most tech thing I bring to school is prolly my CD-Player 🙂. It just bothers me and I just go, yea yea...sure sure.

I'm always carefull who I talk with about computers because once somebody knows you can help them fix a problem then you become there 24 hour tech support..

I generally don't talk about computers with other people in public. Mainly because whenever I hear someone talking about computers I could correct about 18 things they say in one sentance. So, instead of doing that, or agreeing with their jibrish, I just ignore.

No not at school or anything, Main reason being I don't want to be bxtched at when something doesn't work. Oh can you help me with this, that and the other thing.

I feel like a dork when i bust out the computer knowledge, becuase then i think everyone thinks im a nerd, and im not. If i dont bring up computers nobody even knows i know anyhting about knowing about computers...heh

Heh in computer repair class in school, i showed just the bit of my knowledge and im already the smartest kid in class, i could argue back at the teacher and teach the class with the little knowledge i have but i'd rather stay away...plus being stupid gives u the ignorance of the teacher so when he is busy i can steal stuff j/k

for a while i was ashamed because my girlfriend used to make fun about it.
but after that...she got hooked too! now i have a g/f that plays more q3 than me!:Q

I talk about it with my friends that know the stuff. I hate when people who talk about computers think they know stuff when they know nothing at all.

I definately am not ashamed to talk about computers in front of people. I know alot so I don't have much to be ashamed of. I don't know everything so don't get me wrong, I am sure there are people out there smarter than me, just not many I know of in real life. I can correct alot of people when talkin about computers cause people usually think they know what they are talkin about, when they really don't.

not that i'm ashamed of it, but most of my friends and people i know aren't interested in computers or a computer enthusiast, except for one. from time to time we'll have a computer chat here and there, but other than that, barely ever.

I kept quiet when a sales rep took me for an idiot when she said that I would need a Banshee for my TNT to play 3d games. She even wanted to charge me for it. 😛

Zedfu, I'm the exact same way. I've got a single friend (not much a friend; more like an associate) that I chat hardware with every once in a while. He thinks he's some computer genius. I love showing him up.😛

Pillage, you kept quiet? I woulda had a field day proving that f00l wrong.

I have a few "enlightened" friends whom I talk about computers with non-stop.. but with the "unenlightened", eh... I try to keep my mouth shut. I know a LOT of guys who think they know this stuff, but really haven't got clue.. and I've found that correcting them can lead to some fairly tricky situations😉

Not emabarrassed, but i am wary of being seen as a 'computer guy'. The IT guys are deliberately not invited out etc because they are seen as 'geeks' (rightfully so i might add).

When I'm at CompUSA, et. al, waiting for something when the person in front of me is getting advice from the salesperson, it takes a whole lot of will power for me not to say, "No, he's wrong. He's what ya wanna do...."

Like when that ZipCD was on sale last weekend I heard some dork there asking if the ZipCD was any good, obviously not knowing about it being a rebadged Plextor. The sales person told him, "It's alright, but I like the Yamaha 16x burner, it's the best on the market." I was about to say, "Maybe the fastest, but not the best. That ZipCD has the burnproof which prevents coasters and that Yamaha doesn't. Saving that 2 minutes really isn't worth it when you can end up making a coaster and having to do the whole thing again. No to mention the reputation of Plextor.. etc.." But they were sold out of the ZipCD anyways so it didn't really matter.

When I'm with less 'enlightened' friends, I'll usually really tone down my knowledge unless they start quoting stupid sh!t to me or talking to someone else and giving bad advice.

I'm in no way ashamed of my geekyness, or dorkyness...whatever you want to call it 🙂 But I try to keep a low profile because I HATE HATE HATE giving our free tech support. But anyone who knows me knows that I'm a total geek 🙂

Hell no, I don't talk about my computer knowledge anymore. Near the Holidays I got eleven phone calls from family in ONE AFTERNOON about what kind of crap they should buy. They automatically assume I'm a fountain of knowledge for PC's, stereo's, DVD's, etc... It's enough to make me wanna sell shoes. :|
