hunting, fishing, reading books (had to kill a tree but that's a different story). Enjoy beef and pork but their raising and slaughtering is nothing compared to the poultry operations.

It would be nice to bury my head in the sand and complain about us abusing nature but we've thrown it so far out of whack that we might be the only ones that can save it. Consider all the forests that have been cleared for our homes, the corals that have been decimated for sponges and from oil spills, the amount of water pollution from acid rain/mining and effluent.

yep, them poor animals really get mistreated. The next time you open your refrigerator, turn on a light, drive a car, wear clothes, realize that you made a conscious decision to do so. Then connect the dots and count how much negative impact you've had on nature, so you can enjoy your creature comforts. Then point a finger and call someone else stupid and short-sighted.

Yes I hunt; I'm also a forester along with being a Resource Conservationist. I love bird watching and in my county alone I assisted more then 34 landowners plant more then 200 acres back to native grasses. The soil conservation practices that I survey/design and install have stopped gully erosion that resulted in soil savings exceeding 10,000 tons this year alone (I have hard documentation on those numbers).

So what have you done besides complain and blame someone else????

ummmmm,...................sorry, it was a long day at work.

lalakai- That's the same thing as saying.. Welp, I'm going to die anyway, might as well go jump off a bridge.

The whole entire world suffers from a terrible disease. This disease is called MEism. The belief that "I am only one, what can I do?". If everyone turned this around and said, "I am one, I can do my part", think of how much better things would be?..

Hahaha.. That's the funniest thing I've ever heard, we might be the only ones who can save it.. Bwhahahhaha... Oh man, that was a good one dude... We break every natural thing we touch. Scientists estimate that if we vanished off the face of the earth right now, it would take some 10 million years for it to recover. We can't fix it, It's not possible. We don't even understand the complexity of nature. How could we even begin to fix it? We can only try. Do we succeed? I don't think so.

While you're correct on your refridgerator, light, drive, wear clothes(??), statement, the fact of the matter is, most people go around doing these things without even thinking about the damage that they're doing. The first step is acknowledging your wrongdoing.

You don't even want me to get into the killing of trees. Animals are one thing. I acknowledge that we're meant to eat animals. But I'll argue furiously in favor of our trees.

You're a forester, huh? And a Resource Conservationist? Then you should understand deeply what I'm about to say.

Just think about this. Our old growth trees are (used?) to be the oldest living things on the planet. Some are over 3000 years old! Think about that for a second. It was 1000 years old at the time of Christ! The oldest known living tree is some 4200 years old. Not actually very tree like, it more resembles a bush. Look at this picture of a tree. That picture is from the turn of the century. Our forests used to be filled with trees like that. We have wiped out nearly all "real" trees, as I like to call them, in the last one hundred years. You tell me that isn't disgusting. They used to be able to fit one tree on a logging truck. Now you see logging trucks with 30+ trees on them, sometimes you even see branches!

The thing that really pisses me off is that trees make poor paper pulp. We cut down our trees, replant, then cut them down again when they're "mature", a mere 40-60 years old. Sure, trees are a "renewable" resource in that sense, but wouldn't it make much more sense to use something that could be grown as a crop, yields much more paper pulp per acre, and would have a very rapid turnover rate? I'm talking about hemp. Hemp makes superior paper pulp compared wood, and you get much more of it per acre, something like 6x, maybe more, I don't remember the exact figure. It simply boggles the mind why we don't take advantage of this. It upsets me.\, greatly.

I read the #1 taker of our old growth forests is Phone Books. My whole family boycotted them, and stopped getting them, when they heard this. It makes me sick.

Answer me that, Mr. Resource Conservationist.

Sorry, my intent isn't to flame, It's just that this is a heated topic for me..
