Thank gawd not any more. For most of my career, I wouldn't take a job if they were working less than 50 hrs/wk. I lived for my work...(stupid huh?)
I worked MANY jobs, where 6-10's were considered the NORMAL work week, and anything after that was considered overtime. (yeah, we got paid OT after 8, double after 10, x 1.5 for the 1st 8 on Saturday, then double after that, and double all day Sunday, but the culture of the job was that until you worked those 10 hr. days, it wasn't overtime...6-7 days per week...chasing the almighty dollar.
There were times I'd sleep in my truck for a couple of hours, and right back in the seat. Other times, grab a quick nap in a motel, then back at it again...
Refinery shut-downs were always 7-12's...made nice checks, (40 hrs straight time, 18 hours x 1.5, 26 hrs double time every week ~ $4000/week)
Working on the water always brought "tide work" pay, with double time for all hours before or after the "normal starting time".
I've come to the realization, there are 2 ways to get through life:
1) Live to Work.
2) Work to Live.
I think IF I ever rejoin the ranks of the working class, I'm gonna work to live. Fvck all the horrible hours, fvck traveling all over the country and being away from my wife/family...do my 40-50 and go home...
