I'm a workaholic. I've worked crazy hours for my entire 8 year working career. Days, nights, weekends. 50, 60, 100 hours per week. My mantra is "Anyone who would put their life before their job deserves neither."

Recently though, I'm starting to feel differently. I see people who are content to just work 40 hours per week and merrily go home, no matter what. It makes me think, why should I kill myself? I dunno. Old habits are hard to break, and if I just went home while there was work to be done, I'd feel bad.

How about you?

I would prefer to be busy as hell instead of bored. I used to be a workaholic but now that I am in school as well as working full time, I work only 40hrs a week. When I get out of school, I see myself working my butt off again.

I hate working and would any day of the week rather be out of work doing something like traveling with my wife.

EDIT: That being said, I still work my ass off when I'm at work and actually do care about the quality of work I provide.

I wouldn't bother working more than 40-50 hrs/week unless I was in some field like IB where you might actually have your efforts rewarded.

Then again I am still in school and won't start my first real job until later this summer, so I may change my tune once I get out in the real world. I'm just saying I see little reason for me personally to work that much unless I am getting compensated for it. If my job depended on it I'd probably try something totally different. Why work 80-100 hrs/week when at the end of the year all I might have to show for it is some 2% raise?

Work to live, not live to work.

Makes sense but I have never been able to say no to work.

I worked 26 out of the 28 days last month. There are months where I work everyday.

I work if there's work to be done. I get paid per job and not by the hour so I don't waste time.

Yes, your outlook doesn't seem all that great, but we still love you. Don't beat yourself up over it.

Real workaholics don't have time to answer this poll....

You only have one life to live, I don't plan to wake up when I'm 50 realizing I missed it doing work in the end which is meaningless.

Nobody is going to care how many TPS reports you created or how well you scored on your metrics after you are gone. The only one who will remember you is your family and the times you spent with them. I work & earn enough to pay my bills and be prepared to retire, else I go home and enjoy my family.

I don't work hard to impress anyone. I work hard because I couldn't live with myself if I didn't.

Yeah, I think they assume that everyone will work 50 hours per week. There's always too much work and not enough people.

I suppose I am, in a way. I don't like working long hours all the time, but I do like what I do, and I have been known to stay late when I'm working on something, rather than coming back to it in the morning.

Do you work for Wally World, by any chance? I've been working at the home office for a couple months now, and they talk about that *all* the time.

I attend grad school, full time online learing support, and work part time at an elementary school doing all of their technology work.

I keep pretty busy.
