Or maybe more people actually use AMD. These results suprise me too, but because all I read about are Intel folks posting how great their new P4 is. That would lead me to believe there are a lot more Intel users out there, but I guess the AMD users are just quiet or something.

Obviously more people use Intel - I would be interested to see some sales numbers to see just how large the disparity is. The major vendors that buy the majority of all CPUs (Dell, Gateway, etc.) seem to generally shy away from AMD, presumably because it is easier to sell the tried and true, not to mention that the XP+ CPUs run so much hotter that it is impossible to cool them with a silent, passive cooling solution. I keep an open mind; I would be happy to buy an AMD CPU, it just has never been the best choice when I needed a new one, not to mention the cost of buying a new mobo and RAM to match. I was ready to buy a 1900+ for my current machine but went with a 1.6A instead.

Intel also offers EXTENSIVE discounts to companies *cough* Dell *cough* that use Intel, and Intel only. It's also cheaper for support, R&D, and inventory reasons. Don't have to design, build, and support two seperate architectures.

I spend most of my time either on a 400MHz G4 (Apple owns you), or a 1.4GHz T-bird. Strangely, the G4 pumps out RC5 WUs faster. More proof of the MHz myth...

All Intel , home and work...(not an AMD fan.)

1 Intel P3 1 ghz on 815E, 1 XP 1800 on Via 266A.
Both machines stable as can be.

The machines feel the same in speed for office apps and surfing.

The XP absolutely murders the P3 in encoding.
Using Flask, P3 encodes to Mpeg at 9 fps or so.
Xp encodes at 17-18fps.
Almost 2x the framerate at only 1.5x the horsepower. Impressive.

Using the AMD mostly because its newer.
