POLL: AMD or INTEL - which are you using?

I just sold my Dual 1800+ system & bought a P4 1.8A.

Seems to run fine at 2.4+ GHz, but I need a better HS for it.

Seriously? I thought you said you'd never go back to a single CPU system? What's the performance comparison?

<--- Intel here

I have both, but I use Intel on a daily basis, and AMD as a backup. From what I can tell AMD does have small glitches (not fatal), but they derive from the VIA chipset mostly and not from the CPU itself.

I haven't had a chance to play too much with it yet, I was too concerned about the temperatures (pushing almost 60ºC under load). Once I get a better HS on it I'll push it higher and see how it performs. So far it seems to be quicker than the dualie box, which is what I expected. 90% of the things I do didn't use SMP, so the only real advantage of SMP was multi-tasking.

Memory performance is definitely MUCH higher, the 76x chipset isn't exactly know for stellar memory performance.

AGP performance seems significantly better as well, which is also what I expected.

As for going back to a single CPU system, I got an offer I couldn't refuse. I was able to completely switch platforms without spending any money, & the new P4's were just too damn tempting.

In this rig I'm posting from now, I've got a AMD Tbird 950. It IS in fact faster than my P3 Coppermine 866@1137. I also have a P3 800. Since it's my favorite rig, I voted AMD.

My main system is a P4 1.6A @ 2.1. I could OC it more but when I do I really don't see any significant performance to justify boosting the Voltage past default thus raising the temp.
