PC is simply a way of controlling thoughts by controlling language.
"fat as fuck" becomes "big boned"
"runaway inflation" becomes "quantitative easing"
"stupid retard" becomes "victim of circumstance"
"severe schizophrenia" becomes "religious"
"unemployed" becomes "community organizer"
"child molestation" becomes "affair with her underage lover"
"shit I just made up" becomes "some critics say"
"lying sack of shit" becomes "misinformed"

Still one of my favorite examples of P.C. insanity:

Black Holes Are Racist

You just couldn't make this kind of stuff up if you tried! It's like a really bad comedy sketch.

And the type of P.C. boneheads that take offense at literally *everything* and are clearly proud to parade their ignorance for all to see, actually think they are the champions of fairness. Yeah, sure, anyone is going to have a meaningful political debate over serious issues with people this dense. Riiiight.

Whilst the complaint in the news item seems absurd, it's got nothing to do with political correctness.

It's pure PC. People are just ignorant of how insane P.C. has gotten.

You see people in this thread make extreme examples like, oh white people can't use the N word ever (which is stupid, no one really believes that's what P.C. is about anymore) but in reality it's "A greeting card company can no longer market a card with the term "black hole" used because stupid people looking to get offended will try to sue them over it.

It's also been bastardized into: "You can't express any political view I the offended disagree with or it's racist/homophobic/sexist/whatever."

Anyone that hasn't noticed this is just living with their eyes shut.

The only thing that's become insane is how overused the phrase 'political correctness' is.

That news story has nothing to do with political correctness as it's a group of black people at a black interest group that has put the "this is offensive to black people" complaint in.

I have no idea who the NAACP are but it's more like the group is trying to justify its own existence so that they can get more funding.

It is you who is looking for something to be offended about.

LOL!

Thanks, your expertise in all things political is duly noted.

I assume you know who the NAACP are. They actually *KNOW* what the card says.
(Really? I thought this was pretty obvious, but maybe I give people too much credit?)

Their whole M.O. of late is to shake down businesses who are scared shitless of appearing non-P.C. so they cook up stunts like this, pretending something innocent is 'racist' so they can extract either money or influence over businesses.

The funniest thing about "political correctness" is that nobody even bothers with that term anymore except for hard right-wingers, who seem to think it's a HUGE DEAL still. If someone gets offended by your calling someone a midget or something, well, you can choose to apologize or not. You have the right to say whatever you want, not the right to say whatever you want without someone telling you you're an asshole. I seriously haven't heard anyone use "PC" in any context outside of right-wing echo chamber griping since the 1990s, and I've lived in Berkeley, CA.

Yes, you can find individual people making ridiculous complaints that can be labelled as "PC." I can also find individual whackjobs at any city council meeting or newspaper letters to the editor complaining about every other damned thing under the sun. It's hardly some huge epidemic with serious force behind it.

^ Wait, someone who lived in a total liberal zoo like Berkeley hasn't noticed P.C. insanity?

I'm SHOCKED!

You lived in a place that wanted to ban science classes in High School because teaching science is "unfair to blacks and latinos" yet you don't believe P.C. insanity exists.

Talk about not being able to see the forest from the trees.

Also the labels really don't matter. We all know what it is. Liberalism.

Nowhere in that link is the word 'unfair' used - where are you getting that quote from?

Well then make that argument.

Well then make that argument.
I did.

They use companies fears of appearing non-P.C. in order to shake them down, for money or influence. Later, they'll approach Hallmark with "Hey, remember how you guys made that terrible racist greeting card? Well, we've got a new initiative going, and we'd love for you to sponsor it to the tune of oh, let's say $200k, because you know, we know you're really want to make amends to the black community..."

And like I said, of course they KNOW what the F the card actually said. It's what they do, they go looking for shit like that to purposefully take out of context and then use as a shakedown tool. Politically, they take their political opponent's words out of context, or insist that things that have nothing to do with race are racist, do achieve the same goals. That's what political correctness (okay fine, let's just call it rampant liberalism if it makes people happier) is really all about.

What you're describing is extortion, not political correctness.

You're not too sharp. The whole policy is based on the (idiotic liberal) idea that only whites benefit from science classes.

But again, I would hardly expect you to be able to spot an idiotic P.C. liberal policy when you lived in the epicenter of P.C. liberal stupidity and didn't notice it.

Political correctness has been turned into extortion. So sure, rampant liberalism=extortion.

We agree on that.

So... political correctness is rampant provided you change the definition of it to whatever suits your needs on any particular day, and you invent things that were never said.

I said it before. Liberalism is an inherently an ideology of extortion. Which is why it was amusing to watch the Democrats complain about the Tea Party figuring out how effective extortion is

You don't even know the definition of political correctness. (And really, like I expect a guy who never heard of the NAACP to know much)

Political correctness (adjectivally, politically correct; both forms commonly abbreviated to PC) is a term that refers to language, ideas, or policies that address perceived or actual discrimination against or alienation of politically, socially or economically disadvantaged groups.

On the first page I already stated that political correctness doesn't really exist.

Extortion is not political correctness.

Not everyone lives in the US.

You're a berk.

So You made a stupid false statement on the first page. So what?

Not living in the US changes facts (or makes you a particular expert on them) exactly how?

There is such a thing is being too liberal!
Liberalism is a sentiment I agree with. Its in the spirit of resisting tyranny. It used to be a word that inspired liberty.

Where it went bad is socialism. Communism is a less pc term.

I would wager at US universities, 80% are commies.

Well, let's see.

Do you think living outside the US increases or decreases the chance of someone knowing who the NAACP are...?

I would call you a bigot because you confuse something good with something evil. You know the beauty of love but by natural inclination and acculturation you have concluded that gay love is bad. But it is love that is good in every way it manifests. I am not talking about sexual lust and gratification but real love of another person.

If saying "shoving a penis up your ass is not normal" makes me a bigot, then so be it.

But then again this goes back to being politically correct. It is not politically correct to call something the way it is.

If the truth hurts, have no fear, political correctness to the rescue.

I can't recall any instance of anyone claiming that anal sex was 'normal' in the sense that it was something that the average person does on a frequent basis.

However, you were called a bigot because you said this, which is very different to what you said above:

My inner feelings tell me the gay lifestyle is wrong.
