Legend has it that a Portville Kindergartner witnessed a politically hyperventilated Urther (who was thrilled-as-a-child to learn a political demon had just shot a friend in the face) convert Dick Cheney into Elmer Fudd in mere seconds solely for the amusement (and hardly for the edification) of his friends, earning him "free lunch," for the nonce, for his "brilliance." This editorial cartoonery was executed so expeditiously via the Photoshop computing engine gizmo that the executioner's forebrain was not even awakened for the chicanery. The Kindergartner realized that this manner of high-tech, low-brow "editorial cartoon lite" was far less a goad to circumspection than a mere mindless mockery directed at one prefabricated demon or another. The Kindergartner then determined to *mock the mocks* by creating editorial cartoon lites that, to the un-discerning eye-ball, appeared to score a point against the demons, but, in truth, scored against the mockers, who would not *get* the discomforting truth that there was nothing to *get.* Adding insult to absurdity, the five-year-old provided a text that revealed all plainly, but only to those capable of reading arcane multi-syllabic English encased within sentences of unheard-of breadth and imagination. — at On Mars, with sandwiches.

WTF are you guys talking about students being blocked from getting to class. I just pulled up UC Davis on the googlebytes machine and Mrak Hall is tucked WAY in the corner of campus. Not only that, but there are various walkways and alternate paths that one could take if they were somehow being blocked.

The Mrak hall protest was a different than the one with the pepper spray. The pepper spray was in the middle of campus in the quad area between the library 24 hour study room and the memorial union.

They were basically blocking the entire path between the 24 hour study room and memorial union, forcing other students to take a long detour or get their shoes dirty by walking in mud.

The path they blocked is used routinely by students and one cannot simply walk around the protestors without walking in muddy grass.

What is really funny is they are protesting increase tuition cost that will only affect high income students. Students who family make under 90K get grants to cover the whole tuition cost. Only people who family make will over 150K a year will see the full affect of the raise in tuition. It affects a very small percent of the students.

Oh no the mud... on my campus there are dirt paths between certian areas due to poor planning on the universities part. :p

Who couldn't get to class?

The path they blocked only leads between a study room and the memorial union (basically the student union). It would be a significant inconvenience for the students who walk between them.

Imagine if someone blocked the road you take to go home from work, you can likely take a different road home, but it would be a major inconvenience. That is what these students did.

It's like blocking a highway. It's not like you can't go around, but you create a traffic jam and make it inconvenient for a lot of people. Have you been to any of the campuses? Blocking Sproul in Berkeley would be ridiculously inconvenient for me. I walked through there every single damn day to get to class. I could go another way, but honestly I shouldn't HAVE to go another way because the main route is blocked by a bunch of imbeciles.

I'm sorry, but have you ever walked through the quad at UC Davis? I went there for my undergrad and I walked on that sidewalk maybe twice, yet I had to walk across campus almost every day. The quad is called that for a reason - there are sidewalks on every side of it, separate from the central walkway. In addition, the grass is rarely muddy and those areas can easily be avoided by walking around them. Your logic is terrible. The quad is massive and its actually EASIER to walk anywhere but the central sidewalk (which was actually only put in ~3 years ago). I wonder what people did before the major pedestrian highway was put in  Seriously, that reason is crap. I don't support the OWS movement, but I do condemn the police action. If I did that to anybody, I would be in prison for assault on each and every individual. This situation did not call for this type of action. Period.

UC Davis is the biggest UC campus. The quad is proportionately large. You can get around anything in Davis. It is quite easy to get around anywhere in the quad and that walkway was only recently put in. It actually isn't directly supposed to link Mrak and the MU. It just happens to be in alignment. There are several other walkways and, this time of year, the grass is likely the easiest way to get anywhere.

<- Went there. Walked there. That reason is bullshit.

I went to UCD, the walk is the only direct path from the 24 hour study room and MU. It isn't any where near Mrak. It is true there are other paths one can take, but it is less convienent.

There was always a paved path between the 24 hour study room and the MU, they just made it larger a few years ago. I went to UCDavis years ago and there was a paved path there already.

There was originally a black asphault path between them, all they did was make it larger and nicer. But to say there was no path before 3 years ago is wrong. There has been a path there for over 10 years. I used that path every day I went to UCDavis as I went between the 24 hour study room and MU everyday.

Just to be clear though I do agree that pepper spray was excessive. They cops could have just lifted the students up and moved them, if they resisted then just arrest them. There was no need to pepper spray them all, expecially not that close. Really unneeded force.

Eh, it broke up the last of the crowd and no one was seriously injured. Better than trying to drag 20+ dudes all the way off campus. The dudes knew it was coming, they even all had their heads ducked.

Here's the thing I learned though. Cops will never play wrestle with you. They'll just beat you or spray you or wahtever if you don't move. They're not here to play club bouncer and throw you out. You either comply or you get arrested.

LOL. Right, have them tweak their backs and be forced into medical retirement trying to wrestle with some armlocked protesters.

It's difficult enough to handcuff someone who doesn't want to comply, much less when people are hanging onto each other.

LOL. Right, cops shouldn't need to do their jobs because they may tweak their backs trying to restrain some peaceful protestors.

Lazy ass hippie cops.

Force is not excessive if it's warranted. Let cops tazer them. That's actually safest for both suspect and police officer on a non complaint suspect. The issue is ousting/arresting them in the first place IMO. Unamerican & Unconsitutional as we have a right to peacefully assemble and bitch about our govt for any reason. Political speech has always been granted even futher deference by our courts than any other.
