Read the OP.

Nobody did help.I asked for how many combinations. Not how to SOLVE it. Finally towards the end of the thread TuxDave answered the OP.

How about stop being as ass?

People did help, you're just too lazy or dumb to realize it.

Like I said before, if you bothered to read a little (just a little, not much) you would have seen Txrandom give you all the necessary information to get the answer. It wasn't much harder to go from what he said to the answer you're looking for.

It's like if you asked how many states are in the US, and someone replies "the answer is 25+25", aer you gonna whine and complain "I don't want a formula, I want the answer!"

Re-read this thread, look at how much of an ass you are with your poor attitude. You're 54, I expect you to be more mature than what you've shown here.

Quick? Belittle? In the post you quoted?? Did a 54 year old get his iddy biddy feelings hurt because I told him his answer "isn't too close"? Or was it the part where I actually took the time to partially explain the logic behind the problem you're trying to solve? Or could it be the question, "how the heck did you wind up with an odd number of possibilities?" which I asked because I cannot concieve of how you arrived at the answer you stated (short of just making the number up.)

I've corrected 10's of thousands of questions. And when a student gets a wrong answer, I always try to understand what went wrong that led to a wrong answer. In that manner - understanding what types of incorrect concepts my students have - I'm able to help future students avoid making the same mistakes. i.e. you can learn from your mistakes, and you can learn from the mistakes of others. But, for the life of me, I cannot understand how you arrived at 1,831. And, other than random guesses, it's fairly rare that I can't figure out, just based on an incorrect answer, how a student arrived at it. Or another way to think about it - when math teachers create multiple choice questions, do you think they just roll dice and make up random numbers for the 3 wrong choices?? No - they understand the types of mistakes students make, and can anticipate them (no matter how hard they try to keep students from making them.)

In fact, "usually though, when students of mine post an incorrect answer, it's a factor or multiple of the correct answer" should indicate to you that I did, in fact, try to attempt to figure out what process you were using which resulted in you error, and that I regularly check students answers. It's a process I wouldn't have needed to attempt if you weren't too lazy to just post your answer and how you arrived at it in the first place, as several people here suggested you do. Thus, you've made it apparent that you're just looking for a quick answer.

"Well, i don't understand why you just didn't answer the question if you knew the answer." Let me explain it to you, since probability apparently isn't the only area you lack comprehension. Txrandom was trying to help you *understand* the answer. He actually took the time to post the process and logic involved in arriving at a correct answer. Those types of people are more valuable than the people who will simply give you the answer. As you're making references to my status as a teacher, perhaps you should think back to when you were in school and ask yourself, "did my teachers just give me an answer? Or did my teachers encourage me to think and try to lead me in the right path toward the answer?"

Again, in reference to you thinking that I'm a poor teacher - I have no problem telling a lazy student that they're lazy. I don't beat around the bush and cherry coat it for students. Then again, I don't deal with young students with the frail egos of kindergarteners. In fact, I've helped quite a few students finally come to the realization that they're shooting themselves in the foot through their own laziness - I've gotten quite a few turned around and back on the right track (assuming graduating from high school vs. dropping out means the right track. This year, I turned around a student in another teacher's math class - last year he had an average *below* 10%. This year, he's gotten in the 90's on every math exam, in a more difficult course.) But, am I afraid of hurting his feelings by telling him he's lazy and it's his own fault he's failing biology? Absolutely not - someone needs to make him realize that it's HIS responsibility to learn.

Likewise, you indicated early in the thread that you just might be trying to take some responsibility for your own learning. "This is just a self improvement math problem i am trying to do. " Yet, as has been pointed out numerous times, you've been rude to anyone actually trying to help you to improve your understanding of this problem. Forgive me for making this suggestion, but perhaps you should be working on self improvement in the area of manners before worrying about poker problems.

just a hint which might help you later in life: when you ask someone for help or a favor, don't be a b!tch to them when they actually help you, just kindly accept their help and then stfu.

Again read the OP: On a 5-card holdem board.......how many 3-rank combinations are possible?
All i asked for was an answer. How dov you know why or what i intend to do with that number?
Additionally i am Not one of your students, and Don't call me lazy. You know nothing about me
to make that assumption. Maybe it is the other posters in here who were too lazy to do the math.HUH! Maybe math isn't what i do but i have helped many people over the years do many things. I didn't post this thread to play games, i merely requested an answer to a problem i was having and got called lazy. Seriously maybe you should grow up and get some manners.

You have a lovely attitude there.

I hope you do realize that no one will help someone like you. All you are doing is demanding for an answer and I guess your brain is too small to even do a little work when 99% of it has been done for you already.

You can't be 54, you sound too much like a spoiled teenager who thinks the world owes him everything.

LOL, the more you talk, the dumber you sound.

Are you honestly that dumb or lazy to not be able to extract the answer from txrandom's "forumula"? My goodness, not only are you lazy, but you don't show an OUNCE of appreciation. Like i said, you just feel that everyone owes you something, am I right?

If you asked "How many feet are in a mile?" and someone replies with "There are exactly 5000+280 ft in a mile", are you seriously that dumb to not be able to get the answer?

LOL @ you.

DUDE, you claim this problem is for self improvement, what good is an answer if you don't know the path to solve it? Just getting the final answer for your question is useless unless you are using it for homework, which you claim isn't. Finally, an easy to understand solution with well defined calculation is an answer too.

DUDE, you claim this problem is for self improvement, what good is an answer if you don't know the path to solve it? Just getting the final answer for your question is useless unless you are using it for homework, which you claim isn't. Finally, an easy to understand solution with well defined calculation is an answer too.

Uh-Uh, another ugly loser begging to be noticed.

Is that your final answer?

No read it again because i edited it. Ugly loser.

Someone ban this fool. He's totally unreasonable now.

No, this is:

Hey, aside from the fact i was told (not in exact words mind you) that i probably have the brains of a stupid ,lazy, clam the thread was a raging success. I do have one issue that sticks in my craw though. Who the hell rated my thread with only one star? If i ever get my hands on him/her their going to be Ugly Losers. And speaking of ugly losers i hope my calling you ugly losers hurts you to the core , makes you suicidal, and you bawl all night. But, if one of you Ugly Losers was to change my threads rating (I like 4 or better) i won't call you an Ugly Loser anymore.

Thanks all

Awesome, my zero star rating made the average rating of the thread round down to zero stars too. My job is done here.
