Depends on if the seller is advertising them as legit or pirated. If it's stated in the auction that they're pirated, I wouldn't really care. But if it was implied that they were real DVDs, then I would definitely report. Kind of like that guy that tried to sell Seinfeld DVDs a long time ago (when there weren't any released).

I was just wondering what people would do. The person I am talking about is a lifer and has over 12,000 post here...

Unless they're Elite, postcount and rank mean nothing.

Elite doesn't mean sh1t either dood...

Elite carries more weight than anything else does.

I see. So this person selling stuff on ebay is delivering it to these people and clocking them over the head?

Man, you guys have absolutely NO imagination. And no idea how good it feels to be fighting the good fight, either, apparently.

I have an imagination, but beating someone and stealing their purse is different than taking $20 and giving them a DVD-R.

If it were you, no problem. :p

Moron. Getting "involved" can get you killed.

A citizen's DUTY in that (extreme) case - UNLIKE this "probable piracy" one - is to call the police and try to remember dsetails of the crime and serve as a witness. ;)

EDIT: And in your terrible extreme example, perhaps the man was retreiving HIS purse from the woman thief.

Yeah just like that case where the guys friend raped/ murdered that little girl in the bathroom in Vegas while he did nothing to stop him. So he was right in minding his own business and not getting involved?

People who think like that make me sick.

Uncle Ben, noooooooo!!!!!!!

But seriously, I don't buy or download infringing materials but I don't see infringement as entirely black-and-white.

People have justifications for "stealing" from RIAA and MPAA companies that have some merit, especially given those companies' price fixing, lack of an ethical replacement policy for damaged discs, lack of ethical treatment of artists and actors, and attempts to prevent consumers from making backup copies and encoding for devices like MP3 players.

Hee hee hee. Uncle Ben. Giggle.:)

I don't care about the piracy.. It's not worth my time to help companies gouge the consumer.

However, about NFR... It should be illegal for any software company to try to license it as NFR. NFR essentially means that it cannot change hands and it must expire once the original user is done using it. That is pure crap. I support anyone 100% selling software marked NFR because it IS NOT FVCKING ILLEGAL TO SELL SOFTWARE MARKED NFR.

Unless it violated AT forum rules (selling pirated stuff in FS/FT) I wouldn't do anything.

He's not really ripping anyone off out of any money as you can't get those DVDs or even VHS copies anywhere...

It's another thing to blatantly copy DVDs from netflix and sell them though...

Hell, I bought a copy of the RAD DVD even though I knew it was a bootleg. I have no problems with people selling this kind of stuff because frankly, I can't get it anywhere else so no one is really lsoing any money...

I wonder how many are defending him just because you mentioned they were a lifer?

If it was me i would report them to ebay and link to the auction in question. Making a profit from piracy just proves they are scumbags.

Nice to know that having a lifer status lets you make money on stolen goods and the hard work others have done. YEAH LIFERS!

so thats the same as saying if someone is Trolling on another forum, that they should be welcome here on Anandtech.

Think about what you said! Thats like if someone was caught selling pirated stuff on Hardforums or AMD forums that it should be overlooked because it didn't happen here. Bullsh!t man. You know better than that.
