I wish I could just download all the seperate areas all at once, overnight.. instead of doing it piece by piece and having to visit each area. Such a pain. (And if there is a way to do this, please share!)

I've not tried this, but it might work. There is a "map" where it lays out tiles of the different areas. You can just try going to each and downloading in the background. However, I'm not sure if it'll let you download multiple places at the same time, nor do I know if it'll have those locations on the map if you haven't been to them yet.

Would be something to try though.

I've noticed this too. You have to redownload each area for every new session of Home. Why can't they just store them on your HD and only update if there's a new version.

Tycho over at Penny Arcade has the following to say:

Here is everything you need to understand about Home, if you should accidentally launch it from your XMB: press and hold the Playstation button in the center of your Dual-Shock or Sixaxis controller. From the menu that appears, select Quit.

The rest of his description sounds so hilariously bad that I can't wait to get to my moms house to try it out (I don't have internet in my apartment and my ps3 hasn't seen an update since early july)

I can't wait to awkwardly grope all of your avatars!

Are you sure this is correct? I thought each area was a one-time download stored on the 3GB set aside when you first install Home. If that's not the case, Home is an even bigger failure than I thought originally, not being into Second Life and all.

I can't make a Home character that looks like me at all, even playing with all the custom slider settings. My freaking 360 avatar looks more like me than my Home one does...WTF.

I don't think Imported or Baked is correct. However, I do think Sony makes tweaks to each area from time to time, so if you're prompted to download an area again, it's changed somehow.

In the Home closed beta, I went back in 3 or 4 times at different intervals, and only had to redownload the Central Plaza once. All other areas (besides the theater, which I only visited once) didn't have to reload.

I'll try again tomorrow. I had to redownload about all the public areas last night, but I guess that's cause they made changes from version 1.02 to 1.03. I'll login again tonight and see if I have to redownload. It's probably a coincidence where I login between Home updates so it felt like I had to redownload the public areas each time I visit them.

There is no way in hell that I will ever i mean EVER pay even a dollar for a virtual piece of furniture for a virtual house in a virtual community. It just seems to me that this is the big S's way of nickel and diming people. I mean this doesn't even make sense. If its a virtual world then give people virtual jobs to have virtual services to make virtual money. Then charge virtual money for the things in the shopping mall. Does anyone else agree that this is just dumb?

MS does it too and it's pretty annoying. I'd like more themes and gamer pictures but there are very few available for free. Some games you can unlock one or two and they have a free set now and then to pimp a movie or something, but they generally want you to pay a couple bucks. For a damn icon. No thanks.

In some ways MS is even worse. I couldn't find a decent 360 wallpaper/theme that was free. PS3 has plenty of game wallpapers that are free and they let you just make your own.

I don't mind charging people for crap in Home. At least anyone can log into home and just hang out or whatever for free. It'd be nice if they at least let you have free random crap and at worst made you pay for the fancier stuff.

Anybody can sit on their 360 dashboard and hang out with the 4 premium themes that were free with the dash download.

Wow. Tycho was really really brutal with Home.

You don't have a problem with Home having a few free outfits and the rest for sale, but the 360 is on your shit list for having a few free themes and the rest for sale?

Ok, just wanna update on the public places download thing. You only have to redownload when there's a version change.

You can get free outfits playing the arcade games. I got the echochrome costume and ice breaker beanie tonight.

- 10,000 points: Trophy

Stage B:

- 6,000 points: Shirt

- 10,000 points: Echochrome Thinking Statue (Trophy)

Stage C

- 15,000 points: Echochrome Table

Ice Breaker

Level 4: Baseball Cap
Level 8: Shirt
Level 12: Pants
Level 16: Footwear
Level 20: Ice Breaker Pengun (Trophy)

*Trophy = Statue in your house

I downloaded it, but haven't been able to login yet. I keep getting the "server does not exist' error.

Home definitely appeals to the myspace crowd. If you don't have friends who you want to hang out with in Home, and visit each other's houses to check out the decor, then Home will not impress you.

They definitely need to change the bowling alley capacity. 3 pool tables, 10 arcade machines, and 8 lanes isn't enough!

I can't believe they have a capacity on that. I buy consoles thinking I'll never have to wait for my games.

Home is really dumb. It's like what I image a stripped down version of Second Life is like. I spent the majority of the time running up to people, displaying the 'thumbs down' emote and quickly running away. It got a few lulz. I can't image this being useful. If I'm going to meet people to play games with, then I'll do it in the game lobby of the game I'm playing.

I laughed at the fact that you call Home dumb, yet you use terms like "lulz".

"Lulz" is used by the 13-year olds of the internet. It would seem as if Home would be right up your alley.....
