Walmart has Body Fortress brand. Super Adv Whey Protein. Its $15 for a 13 (2 scoop) servings at 52g per serving of proteins, plus it has L-Glutimine, Tuarine and some BCAA's in it as well. I give it a 8 / 10 for what it is and its low cost. I use it. But if your looking for really good quality proteins then your gonna have to shell out some money and forget the whole cheap thing. The Bodyfortress Brand is good enough for me since I am on a budget. But everyone their own.

Optimum Nutrition from Amazon is supposed to be good quality, and at $45 / 75 servings each with 24g protein, it's slightly more expensive but priced closely to the walmart one. (40g / 1$ vs about 45g /1$)

edit: The subscription service brings the price down more to 45g/$1 ($40 per shipment). This is how I buy it, delivered monthly.

Yea if you can catch this one sale and have the money. Gold Standard is supposed to be one / if not the best whey protein and highly highly recommended on Bodybuilding.com. Its actually 48g of protein per 2 scoop if you compare it to the Bodyfortress brand. I even may upgrade to this later on myself.

It's $15 in store, but you can also go onto their website, and get 3 jars (cans? containers? whatever!) for ~$40, shipped. That's bringing it down to the $13 and change level, which I doubt anyone can beat on a regular basis.

Personally, I use their strawberry and chocolate flavors. First one for a morning protein shake (with breakfast), second for pre-workout (mixed in with a Yoplait Lite yogurt.....cherry, raspberry or blackberry, with the chocolate, tastes great!) and post-workout (shake).

I also recommend Amazon and you should also search Google for your requirements. At least check out the main links from first 3 pages after the search. You will surely get better products.

Where did that thread go that discussed heavy metals in these unregulated products?

Idk--wouldn't mind reading it if it is around. You get exposed to that stuff in everyday food and certain other things in the environment, but it's never a bad thing to limit your exposure.

Am I reading this wrong or do you need to divide those numbers by 3 because they are based on 3 servings?

Yeah, it's based on 3 servings.

Does this have low cholesterol? I'm cholesterol sensitive, so I usually end up paying more for a low cholesterol to protein ratio.

I currently use the GNC amplified wheybolic 60, but it was $100 for 34 servings and that was with discounts and a coupon. I read afterward that this particular brand of GNC whey is actually manufactured by Optimum Nutrition, so I guess I could save some money going that way.

I've always loved ON (especially the Platinum Hydrowhey, that stuff mixes smooooth) but I just bought a 6 lb bag of whey protein at Costco. It's from Cytosport, the makers of Muscle Milk, but it's 80% concentrate and 20% isolate, FWIW. Tasty though.

I love that stuff. I have been using it for about 5 months now. The vanilla in a smoothie for breakfast and chocolate for post workout shake.

I'd have to re-read it but I think that the tests were baed on 3 servings because "safe levels" are based on daily intake. Technically, you would divide by 3 and then multiply by how many scoops you have a day.

Thanks, yeah that's high for me. I think the AMP comes in at about 15mg per 3 scoop serving (@60g protein). It might not even matter though. I should do a baseline cholesterol test, then start with another brand and get a followup test 6 months later to see what kind of difference it makes.

I used to take protein shakes but someone said on here you can get enough protein from regular diet so i stopped buying the ON platinum. and just eat a bunch of other stuff with protein.. Wondering how much more gains i would see if i drank protein shake as opposed to cottage cheese with tunafish and a hard boil egg with a cup of milk.. (way more protein then a shake would be)

On weekdays, I typically eat 3-4 actual meals a day. I usually bring a protein shake to work to drink between 12 and 6, since that's the biggest time gap I go without any food. otherwise I'd probably go all food as well. but isolated whey is good to have post workout whether or not you can have actual meals.

Depends on how much protein you already take in and how much you work out. I find it hard to get enough proteins from just my average meals so I use them to suppliment what I cant.

Now from what I have read you should take in 0.9x Lean Body Mass (LBM) for cutting, which is around 150 for me and if your a heavy lifter and spend more then 5 days a week lifting, then 1.55 x LBM which is 250g or so. But I was reading on body building dot com just the other day that if you want serious mass gains you need 450g per day, which I am sure a stopped up asshole and failed kidney would be sure to follow.. So IDK..
I decided this week to cut back on my protein just a tad to 1.0xLBM to help cut more of my flabby stomach down. But each their own and like I said it depends on how much, how heavy and what your already taking in.

I believe its better to eat your protein than to drink it. However, if you're not taking any supplements at all it would be difficult to eat the amount of protein you would need to gain.

If you're looking for cheap protein, the price to look for is about $30/5lb for 24+g/serving. If you can get it at that price, you're doing pretty good.

True Protein
Custom blends are good and you can choose the flavor. Promo codes from the forums will save you 5%. It's not much of a discount, but it's something.
