are you forgetting that Malone DIDN'T slow down KG or Duncan?

KG's stats against the Lakers:
23.6pts 11.8reb 4.5ast 1.2stl 1.2blk 46.34%FG

Duncan's stats against the Lakers:
20.6pts 12.2reb 3.3ast 1.0stl 1.7blk 47.2%FG

hardly slowed them down.

now i'm not saying Sheed dominated Jermaine O'Neal or KMart, but both of those players are better than Malone. both JO and Kmart are better defensively than Malone. in the matchup of Sheed vs. Malone, i think Sheed is better. i don't think Sheed will "stomp" him, but i do think Malone will have a hard time with him.

A little perspective:

Duncan - 2003 Postseason v. Lakers: 28.0 PPG, 11.8 Reb, 4.8 Assists, 1.33 Blocks, 52.9% shooting

Duncan - 2004 Postseason v. Lakers: 20.7 PPG, 12.2 Reb, 3.3 Assists, 1.67 Blocks, 47.3% shooting

Garnett - 2003 Postseason v. Lakers: 27.0 PPG, 15.7 Reb, 5.2 Assists, 1.67 Blocks, 51.4% shooting

Garnett - 2004 Postseason v. Lakers: 22.5 PPG, 11.3 Reb, 5.3 Assists, 1.00 Blocks, 47.5% shooting

just some more food for thought. for those who insist the Piston have no offense:

Lakers PPG in the playoffs: 90.0
Pistons PPG in the playoffs: 86.1

that's a whopping 3.9 points per game differential. i'm just tired to hearing "how are they going to score?"

we'll all see on sunday. im just happy that the pistons were able to finish off the pacers with enough time to rest before the finals.

with both teams well rested, this first game should be very interesting....

Pistons in 7.

i think the Pistons match up agains the Lakers a lot better than people realize. the Pistons have plenty of big bodies to throw at Shaq. a few of the big bodies can step outside and shoot the 3. Shaq won't want to venture out that far.

and with all due credit to the Spurs, i don't think the Lakers have been tested defensively.

Its all about Game 1. I'm a die hard Piston fan and I think we match up very well. We already beat the lakers during the regular season. So for you Naysayers and you piston haters STFU. It can be done and will be done.

If they can win game 1 then our chances will be great. If we lose game 1 then we will have a tough time catching up. To me if Pistons win game 1 that will put some SHOCK into alot of people and boost their confidence drastically.

Payton or George won't be able to handle RIP either. Kobe won't want to guard RIP because he will be too tired and his offense will go down.

I'm thinking Pistons in 7. Maybe in 6 if we steal game 1.

Great... for me to poop on. The Pistons play great defense which is all well and good but you need to be able to score points too, which they can't do. That 60-70 point bullsh!t they put up just isn't going to cut it. Lakers in 5. I only say five because the Lakers will forget they're playing a game at least one night and not even try.

*spelling edit*

We can score. We just haven't needed to. We've been playing teams where we can win with 60-70 points. So why do we need 120 points when we hold our opponents under 70 almost every single game.

Since we got the best D. Its on the lakers to try and score and lets just see if the lakers avg even 85pts a game.

the Piston's biggest detriment is lack of Finals experience. The Lakers have been there, done that.

otoh, the Pistons have made it deep into the playoffs in the past, and they are definitely battle-tested this playoffs.

Don't forget our Coach, Man has he got some playoff experience and bou is he THIRSTY.

He holds the most Playoff wins by any active/inactive(?) coach without a ring.

LB > PJ

Lakers in 6

We all know that the lakers are way too strong for the pistons. But sometimes they lack energy and become lazy. Really, they can turn it on at any time and just blow away the pistons.

if the Lakers come out lazy and with no energy, the Pistons will blow them out.

Don't you mean shock the nation? Would anyone in Afghanistan or Madagascar really care who wins?

Plus, all you Pistons fans are delusional. There is no way the Pistons will win when the Lakers are this close to the championship.

there are plenty of overseas NBA fans. but i guess, shock the nation would be more accurate.

don't worry about the Piston fans. all the Laker-over confidence will make it all the sweeter after the upset 😀

Hahahahaha. So the Pistons know they only need to score 70 points, and that is why they brick all those shots. They could score 120 if they wanted to, but then the games would be boring.

they brick about as many as the Lakers do. again, the PPG differential between the Laker and the Pistons in the post season is 3.9. that's two shots.

Well, it seems that the odds are stacked high against the Pistons. Here are 10 reasons why I think the Pistons will beat the Lakers:

1. Defense. They said it wins championships. The Pistons are playing a level of defense unseen in the modern (shot clock) era. They've set historical records all season long. Sure, San Antonio plays great defense, but they haven't broken records and set milestones like the Pistons have. Remember 19 blocks in one game?

2. Offense. The fashionable thing for analysts to say is: "how are the Pistons going to win scoring 60-70 points?" newsflash, the Pistons are scoring only 3.9 points per game less than the Lakers during the playoffs. that's two shots. that's in spite of the low scoring games that the Pistons played in. The Pistons aren't the same team, offensively, as they were last year. They can and do run the break when it presents itself.

3. Playing on the road. The Pistons have shown to be a good road team during the playoffs. they beat Indiana (tied for the best home record during the regular season) 2 out of 3 times on their own floor.

4. Rebounding. During the playoffs the Lakers are getting outrebounded on average, while the Pistons are outrebounding their opponents on average. When the Pistons control the boards, they are extremely tough to beat.

5. Big bodies. During the playoffs, Shaq hasn't faced a team with as many big bodies as we have. This isn't a Shaq vs. Ben matchup. Shaq will face Ben, Sheed, Elden, Memo, maybe Corliss, and if everyone fouls out, maybe 7'1" Darko. Larry Brown has even shown a zone defense at times, which allows for some help on Shaq.

6. Triangle defense. When the Lakers set up and run the triangle, it plays into the Piston's strength: half-court, help defense. The Pistons had the most trouble against the Nets who are a team that doesn't set up in the half court.

7. Playoff tested. The Pistons have gone to 7 against the Nets and won tough games when many counted them out. They've played the NBA's top team in the Pacers and beat them.

8. Element of surprise. Everyone is counting them out. The Pistons are a very strong team, mentally. Everyone in L.A. is getting ready for their victory parade. The Pistons have a chance to steal one in L.A. by throwing the first punch and catching the Lakers (and everyone else) by surprise.

9. Sheed. Everyone's "x-factor" is Tayshaun, Rip, or even Memo. They forget that Sheed is finally healing from his foot and ankle injuries. He's closer to 100% health for the first time since the regular season. During the last 3-4 games of the Indiana series, Sheed has been playing his best basketball, since the regular season. He's posted double doubles and scored over 20 points a few times. Mark my words, Sheed will be huge in the Finals.

10. Tayshaun Prince . In the NJ and Indiana series, he's had to focus on RJ and Artest. Remember the Milwaukee series when he guarded a lesser Desmond Mason? Well, get ready Devean George....I see Tayshaun stepping it up in the Finals. Tayshaun may defend Kobe a few times, but I see him on George a majority of the time.

Here are my 10 reasons the lakers are gonna win (not in any paticular order):

Lakers Roster
2003-04 Roster
NUM PLAYER POS HT WT DOB FROM YRS
8 Kobe Bryant - C G 6-6 220 8/23/78 Lower Merion (PA) 7
2 Derek Fisher G 6-1 205 8/09/74 Arkansas-Little Rock '96 7
17 Rick Fox - C F 6-7 235 7/24/69 North Carolina '91 12
3 Devean George F 6-8 240 8/29/77 Augsburg '99 4
11 Karl Malone F 6-9 259 7/24/63 Louisiana Tech '86 18
14 Stanislav Medvedenko F 6-10 250 4/04/79 Ukraine 3
34 Shaquille O'Neal - C C 7-1 340 3/06/72 Louisiana State '93 11
20 Gary Payton G 6-4 180 7/23/68 Oregon State '90 13
21 Kareem Rush G 6-6 215 10/30/80 Missouri '03 1
and last but not least!

Lakers haven't lost at home this postseason.

In the last series Shaq had Kandi, Johnson, Miller, and Madsen playing him. The Pistons can't play Sheed on Shaq because he will get in foul trouble. Ben will play him tough but is like Madsen, he doesn't have the height. Elden and Okur will get run over.

The Pistons are playoff tested? Ummm the Lakers won 3 championships and Malone and Payton both have lots of experience. And the Pacers weren't the NBA's top team.

Who is going to stop Kobe?

whos gonna stop kobe, fisher, rush or any of the other people. if the team camps on one guy the lakers will change the strategy and let another do the scoring.

the lakers will win because they work great as a team, they dont have ball hogs or hero team members. they are machine and the machine is gonna hurt you.
