i can't believe this is still going on.

but imo it comes down to this: Who CARES?

why are you so obsessed with what he is doing? you really believe that the piracy increases the price? NO. even if there was no piracy, you would still be paying $50/game. it is called greed. remember before there were cd burners and napster you had to pay $18+ for a fvcking album with 2 good songs on it? did the piracy increase the price to $25? NO, i believe that piracy actually has helped bring the price down, and i haven't seen many good money manager bands taking a hit on their lifestyles.

i have an idea call m$ and tell them about china and how they are using pirated copies....maybe that will be news to them? better yet, go through you own collection of software/games/movies/music, etc (i bet you find something naughty) and call on yourself.

all you are doing is opening a can of whoop ass on yourself, and engraving into your brain what a geek you are. are you overcompensating for something? like selling crack to little kids? if he were selling crack to little kids i would say narc on him.

no matter what you do, you will not win what you think you will. what do you want, a little letter signed by little billy saying how much his company appreciates your time and effort. the only person that will know you did it is you and anybody you tell will think you are a punk biatch for being a narc.

and yes i have created intellectual property that probably was stolen/pirated but i really don't care.

Sure tell on him. Only if you've never done anything illegal in your life. No downloading copyrighted music, files, nothing. Else get off your high horse and move on.

There's a difference. If I knew someone was pirating Dreamcast stuff back in the day, I wouldn't rat the person out. I would just beat the living $hit out of the guy. Now, if I knew someone was pirating Xbox stuff I would advise him to stop pirating the Sega stuff, otherwise I wouldn't really care.

Would it make you feel better about yourself that you turned him in?

That's what this is all about, right? Moral justification. Since you once pirated something and feel somewhat demoralized from it, you will feel better by turning someone else in, hence displacing fault into somebody's else's hand.

If you honestly think you're doing the right thing, while full knowingly ratting him out for pure justification of the law and to protect fair enterprise, then do so.

If you are ratting him out because you have a personal vendetta or because you think it's just unfair, then get over it. It's petty.

The reason why I want to turn him in is because he ticks me off. I told him (in an email) that what he is doing is wrong and should stop. He responded indignantly (much like some of you have) and that got me upset. I told him ahead of time that I would turn him in and he said I should do that. Will I get satisfaction from turning him in? Probably. Where will that satisfaction come from? Revenge and the fact that I know I will be helping like you said 'pure justification of the law and to protect fair enterprise'. Probably the greatest satisfaction, though, would come from knowing that that poor excuse for a person is getting the punishment he deserves.

Right/wrong? I don't care. I think it's right, so what you think doesn't matter.

Then let me offer my gratitude to you for being one of only few to openly admit to ratting someone out. Not many people like to be known as a rat, even if what they are doing is justified.

well, worst case scenario....you turn him in and he gets arrested. Is charged some ridiculous amount of money, is kicked out of school, has a felony on his record, does a small amount of jail time (1 -5 years maybe?), is in debt the rest of life, won't be able to land any worthwhile job as he has a record, etc...

So, you could very well ruin his life, and you most certainly will make an enemy for life. All because you don't like him at this moment in time. 20 years of this possibility on your conscience will be far worse for you then just moving on and finding new friends. Just let it go, and spend your time doing something other then worrying about victimless crimes. If you are on a crusade and are in need of a pick me up, why don't you push the same fate on any number of the various people you know who drink underage, buy/sell alcohol to/for minors, buy/sell/use drugs, commit statutory rape, etc... Oh wait, those are socially accepted crimes in our society.

XZeroII-

at this point it is so obvious that you have absolutely no life. you are just a punk biatch, go ahead and do whatever you want, just be aware of whatever happens from "this guy" to you will be justified in his view

misery loves company and if he gets busted, he will be miserable...

My dictionary (dictionatry.com):

eth·ic
n.
A set of principles of right conduct.

urbandictionary.com which seems to be Gen X/Gen Y dictionary of choice:

No entry found for "ethics" in the dictionary.

Why does that not suprise me?

evil happens when good men do nothing right:p

so few whistle callers when those greedy execs were raping peoples retirement investment/savings:p a few more rats would have been nce.

Here are some other activities you might consider engaging in:

Wait outside convenience stores and turn in young people buying booze
Patrol local supermarkets and turn in shoplifters
Join a local computer club and report overclockers
Ask the library for the long overdue book list and track down book thieves
Walk your neighborhood early with the dog walkers and shout at the owners that don't police poop!

And maybe, just maybe....get a freakin life!!

the guy is selling games he copies, and your calling the poster a douchebag? you got some seriously screwed up morals or ethics.

most of your examples aren't even comparable. if the overclockers were remarking chips and reselling perhaps. if the young people were buying booze and selling to minors maybe, if the book thieves were selling the books etc.

its like the difference between robbing someone, or robbing and murdering someone:p

mind your own business... really....

Your 21 years old and telling on people. Shouldnt you be at the bar hanging out with girls or having the time of your life? Ohh thats right. NO. You sitting your arse down in front of the computer worrying about turning someone in for piracy. I have seriously out of the 1000's i know here at Drexel have never heard anyone worry about narcing on someone for pirating. They all have lives and couldnt give 2 sh*ts about something so lame. I suggest you pick up your arm, extent it, extent your middle finger and hit that little button that says power. Next get up walk to the door and GO OUTSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Says the guy to another guy on an internet forum that he's posted on 1851 times.

Turn him in... if nothing happens to him, do some vigilante justice via baseball bat. Make sure you wear a mask though.... That way when you go see him in the hospital, you can be like, "Dude, that sucks.... But you deserve it for pirating."

I agree.

I think both arguments are stupid. ;)

I think he should just go about his own business.

That doesen't mean I support what the guy is doing, it just means that in my opinion it is better to just mind your own business in situations like these. I mean.. I dunno. I guess if it makes you feel good, that's fine. You should do whatever makes you feel best, but It seems pointless to go out of your way to get this one guy in trouble when he doesen't even register on the pirate-radar.

Although, I guess I'm assuming. Do you have any idea how much money he makes? If it's just pocket change, really.. why bother? That's just the way I feel though. Some of you guys need to learn that people are different. That's what makes us people.

I guess if it was tens of thousands of dollars, that would be another thing?

Curious.. what if you found out your next door neighbor was growing a small ammount of marijuana in their back yard? A large ammount?

Would you turn them in?

For your info, I offer tech help just for some extra cash. You mom raised her rates to my dismay and i just dont have that kind of cash on hand. Plus she's slapping me with a lawsuit since i donkey punched the ho so hard that i ended up givin the biatch a concussion

Wow. How about you grow up just a tad and get out of your diapers? Insults are fine as long as they are not incredibly stupid and blatantly immature.

Good question. I was wrong. I should have said Generation Y (born between 1979 and 1994) and a few Xers

It's a shame that so many of you have no regard for intellectual property. What if this guy stole a car? Should we rat him out? The only difference is a car is a tangible object, but I guess so many of you would shrug your shoulders and look the other way. Give us your addresses so we can come steal something of yours, preferably something that you created. Then you'll see the flip side of the coin.

I don't know if anything written has even changed your mind slightly because you seem to be sure on ratting him out. As one guy said, do so only for moral justification.

btw, you guys should go to Mexico. That's like piracy heaven with very large profits :) A cd costs about 2 bucks, pirated psx games cost no more than 3 bucks. I can't imagine Asia, lol
