Give us your addresses so we can come steal something of yours, preferably something that you created. Then you'll see the flip side of the coin.

What if he stole a car? Well then he would be a car thief. Car thiefs are worse than copyright infringers. Regardless if you think thats fair or not, I'm sure most people would think of car thieves as being worse criminals than someone who sells copies of software. There are more people who would kill someone for stealing thier car than would kill for copying a given set of 1s and 0s.

The majority of the population values tanigible goods more so than the intellectual kind. IMO this is rightfully so, the value of something that is limited in quantity should be more so than something that is unlimited in quantity.

I've done that. I've talked to him via email (since that is how he makes contact with most people he does this for). Words were exchanged and finally I told him that I would turn him in. He said I should do that. Of course this is the abridged version, but that's essentially what was said.

i think your setting yourself up for a beatdown

turn him in...i know a guy that works for the MS Anti-Piracy hotline and i guarantee that you won't get beat down because he will never find out it was you. if you turn him in you can opt to be totally anonymous.

as for the people that say "leave him alone, he's not hurting anybody" - he is hurting people, the everyday consumer that pays $50+ for a game that would only $25+ if there weren't people like this as$hat around to help drive up prices on the games.

To me, it's interesting to see the people that have Heat in their sigs, getting down on him for turning this guy in.
Except for one trader, the more experienced at least recognize that the pirate is wrong. The less experienced seem to think it is ok to pirate or are hostile to the poster. If you only have part time ethics, please don't trade with me.

An action was taken. I won't say what it was, but I did take action. I'll let you know if what I did "worked" or not.

In my humble opinion, thumbs down to this flamebait, chief. Just my opinion, though.

I say you turn him in. He's obviously selling games that other groups rip to say, "We ripped it, we're better than you" to the softawre companies. With piracy, I say that products become better...but...piracy is downloading things (theft in a sense). This guy is blatantly stealing the work of others and SELLING IT for easy money. This kind is the worst.

I think he should fry.

We'll see what happens. We should see the results of my 'action' within a week or so.

You are a dick. Lets say this kid rapes your mother. Should you not turn him in because your mother has had sex before, and anything above and beyond is only a plus? No, your mother was violated. Why not turn him in for stealing software? Because the software companies have money, and anything beyond that is a plus?

You are also an idiot.

Your ignorance knows no bounds.

Because one of the two crimes shouldn't be punished?

I'll not call the fire dept next time I see your house on fire.

Agreed. Profitless piracy is one thing, but to make money off of someone else's work is despicable.

How are car theives worse than copyright infringers? Theft is theft in the eyes of the law. And how can you justify "the value of something that is limited in quantity should be more so than something that is unlimited in quantity" What the hell is that all about? You obviously haven't thought this out yet. Would a cure for cancer be valuable to us? I guess it would be worth less than a car, right? Think before you speak, mouth-breather.

I'm never taking my computer to Best Buy! (Not that I'd need to) Or I just won't be an asshat ;)

You'd see my old LEGITIMATE MSDN subscriptionfrom work in my CD images directory with keys in text files and report me.

Also, instead of my legit copies of XP Pro I use XP Corporate + slipstreamed SP1 and updates with the The Blue List Microsoft Keygen (Generates non-banned Corporate keys). Just because I like the hassel-free installation and troubleshooting on all systems I work on. :p

I also have quite an extensive CD-ROM library. I've been saving CD images of my stuff since 1996 and have amassed hundreds on my array of hard drives (I don't even have room for an optical drive). I don't have many of my original CDs because of a tragic loss (Brother left the folder on the car at school and lost 60+). You'd make assumptions for sure.

I just hope you haven't been making assumptions! You should be free to do almost whatever you want with your computer and be free to judge yourself. Computers were not made for restricting their functionality for the benefit of someone else. Neither was the Internet...

Hmm, wouldn't the last of virtually anything on Earth be worth more than something that can be duplicated perfectly whenever the owner wants to sell more of it? Why do you think a "rare" card is worth more than a "common" card? Why do you think something tangible is worth more when it's in better condition? Because quantity is limited. SIMPLE

I don't follow this. What are you saying?
