Pipeline hacked/the greedy line up

People have lost their fucking minds, long lines at any station that has gasoline. Ran errands yesterday and today, and streets are hosed up with people sitting in line. Of course there are the jack-wagons trying to cut the line.

I drive a diesel, and there is plenty of that available, but that's no help when diesel and gas come from the same island. Went to my normal station for diesel, simply because they have several diesel only islands. When I got there only a fire truck and a pickup at any pump, they were out of gas. Filled with diesel and was getting back in the car, yes car, when the woman behind me apparently thought there was gas because I was filling a small car, a VW TDI. I've never heard such from a rather distinguished older woman, driving a very nice high-end car.

Any way, got a tank of diesel, good for almost 600 miles, so no worries there. The RAV4 will see limited use till sanity returns.

Went to Sam's today, line to pumps over a 1/4 mile long. Fortunately there is a different entrance so getting to store not an issue. According to media they only had premium.

The longer I witness peoples behavior, the more I hate people.

Telling where you are might help the rest of us.

I’m in VA right now but will have to drive back to FL next week. Hope things will have settled down by then. We didn’t go out today so don’t know what gas stations look like in this area.

Asheville NC, the closest pipeline terminal is about 60+ miles away in Spartanburg, SC. So in addition to pipeline gas we are also at the mercy of truckers delivering the fuel. There have already been warnings of outages this summer because the drivers qualified to haul gasoline had to find other gigs during the shutdown last year.

What I'm seeing looks line pretty standard across the state. Charlotte which has a pipeline terminal, with big storage tanks, has pictures of long gas lines.

The governor has declared a state of emergency, which doesn't do a lot, but it does allow truckers less restrictions on deliveries, assume can drive more hours, and comes down hard on anyone that chooses to price gouge.

Also noted while at Sam's, none of the EV charging stations they have were in use.

Amazing to watch a limited supply issue blossom into a full blown panic because people are dumb.

It is no joke when it is considered an EMP attack would kill 90% of us. It is not the attack directly, but the consequence to our supply chain and human behavior that follows. Disruption causes scarcity causes anarchy causes death. The only thing stopping us from killing each other is the smooth operation of our economy.

The nuclear war such an attempt would likely trigger is also somewhat of a concern. If the US sees multiple ICBM launches from a hostile nation with trajectories anywhere near the US we're going to be turning keys of our own.

My chief concern is what we do to ourselves when supplies are disrupted. I reference the article to demonstrate that this issue is more widely understood than just my random musings. And I relate back to it when there are minor disruptions and people start acting out.

I filled up all of our cars today. We will be topping them off daily now until issue with gas goes away.
Good way to maintain length of lines and frustration levels and extend the length of the problem.

BTW here in New England no such problems at all. Gas has been rising-slowly-but haven't seen any lines anywhere yet.

Knock on wood.

The Colonial pipeline services Georgia up to the NY/NJ coastal areas. New England gets a lot of it's gasoline and diesel from Montreal's Norcan and St. John's Canaport terminals. I deal with Irving people from time to time, no complaints.

My point was that any attempt to do this would quite likely result in the nuclear obliteration of the attacking nation. MAD still applies so it's a pretty low probability event.

I definitely wish I'd gotten more than half a tank when I filled up Sunday. So hopefully I can get gas in the next 120 miles of use.
