Friends in Florida (Fort Myer) are saying several gas stations in the area are totally out. Gas prices go up around here from 10 cents to 20 cents per gallon within the last 24 hours but no out of gas signs...yet.

Seeing news that’s it’s starting to happen here in Wisconsin as well. Our neighbor was saying he was waiting over an hour to fill his Suburban. He then pre-emptively gave us shit for not having to worry about it since he knows we own a Tesla.

It’s amazing how people bring about the calamity they fear by fear response in the first place. It’s just deeply troubling that people are so irrational about this.

I went to fill up at lunch, and the place was very busy so I came back after my errands and filled up. I didn't realize why because we are in Minnesota, but that must be what it was.

I drove south to Madison on Thursday, and back home 2 hours north just yesterday. I didn't notice any crazy-long lines at regular gas stations, but of course CostCo's gas lines were long as they always are.

Thankfully I have nowhere I need to go for weeks, and a full tank of fuel that I got as I was coming back home.

It's overreaction by idiots the way people line up to wait hours, often when they don't even "need" the fuel immediately. Like that weblooker fucktard, great example to NOT follow. "Hey, let's add to the lines every day to top off our tanks unnecessarily. DERP."

Florida doesn't even rely on the pipeline so it's just some morons rushing to get gas.

Problem in FL is probably due to: (1) Too many retirees with too much time on their hands watching too much Faux News going to the gas station every day "just in case" a gas shortage develops and (2) too many Florida Man there.

I don't get it....
You take the oil out of the ground, you process it into gasoline, you slap it into a pipeline, you load it onto a tanker, you drive to the gas station(s), so what's to hack? :p

No, you didn't ever mention Nixon or the 1973 oil crises, which was by far much worse than the oil shortage of 1979. Wonder why?

The 1973 "crisis" did not effect me as such. I was in the military and deployed for all of that time and I did not need any gasoline. It never crossed my mind to mention it.

When Carter was President I was traveling a lot by car and it effected me greatly.

Now you know and don't have to make crap up to suit your narrative.

PS. I love the Fox News coverage. The lines aren't long enough for Fox, so they are running video from the Jimmy Carter gas shortage back in the 1970's. But I suppose Fox thinks that no one will notice when everyone today drives a 1970 Ford Pinto.

I filled up all of our cars today. We will be topping them off daily now until issue with gas goes away.

you know what? here the fuck we go again. Why the fuck is that these days, whenever some dumbfuck problem with communal dumbfuckery is going on, here is webloooker at the center of it all. Always, always, always being wrong. Always doing the absolute worst fucking thing that is plainly the cause of everyone's problems.

seriously: "the gas issue." "Going to hoard until the issue goes away!" You are THE ISSUE, you dumbfuck. You are the fucking issue. There is no gas issue outside of you and your dumb brain filled with backwards, ridiculous stupid, thinking that you need to fucking top off your tanks every day. Who the fuck does such stupid fucking shit like this, and has no clue that they are THE problem? How is this fucking possible?

It would bring no surprise to me if, in two weeks we learn that, after Israel has bombed another 100 palistenian babies that, somehow and someway, a dumbfuck brainless thought from weblooker is behind that terror. There must be something that you decided to do that precipitated yet another great public misery. It has to be.

Was Carter the shadow President in 1973 the same way Trump is the shadow President now? Or are you leaving out 1973 and only including 1979?

Don't worry, by next year and for the rest of their miserable, ignorant lives it will be the "Joe Biden Corona Pandemic!" for all of these fucking mush heads.

This is why I always keep 2 5 Gal cans full in my garden shed. Its also why I have a 36 pack of TP on a shelf in my basement, it been there a decade +
After the power outage in 2005 in the NE that lasted a couple of weeks I took prepping more seriously with young kids at home.
I'm not storing 5 gallon buckets of wheat but I make sure we aren't on the last squeeze or drop of stuff, that there is a backup on a shelf somewhere.

Too many people take this just in time inventory for granted and not enough redundancy and resiliency built into their lives IMO

10 year-old TP? Man, those billions of paper mites are going to have fun in your asshole when you finally introduce the two! :D

I love those moments when the angry person vocalizes and entirely misses the learning moment, all at once. Beautiful.

ah, so same old same old: "Didn't effect me, doesn't matter," and a little bit of "FYGM."

typical.

No one made up anything, but it did provide you another opportunity to expose your complete lack of empathy and ability to participate in humanity outside of anything that directly effects you. Of Course you didn't learn anything from the much bigger crisis that didn't directly impact you, absorb anything to inform your future behavior to such events. But man, when the smaller version of the same thing happened, and it did affect you--still no change in learned behavior beyond RAGE at all the people that actually weren't responsible.

lol, and it's only a "crisis" because it didn't impact you. What a disingenuous twerp.

My point was that any attempt to do this would quite likely result in the nuclear obliteration of the attacking nation. MAD still applies so it's a pretty low probability event.

Granted, mostly. But my point is human behavior. There are many ways for us to suffer scarcity. And under such conditions humanity will widely disappoint us. Donner party style. There is no law without order and no order without a sense of calm via a smooth supply chain. It is the foundation upon our civil society operates. A rug easily swept out from under us.

People need to understand what we do to each other if !@#$ hits the fan.
Mostly because I want them to understand the gravity of a situation if they try to risk scarcity through any policy they want to push.

Google can help you.

In the U.S., pipelines transfer fuel hundreds, if not thousands of miles to various terminals before being transferred to "tankers".

Any number of pressure sensors, pumps, valves etc. are controlled by (hackable) software.

Insert evil intent or simple human error here.

Turns out while they said they wouldn’t pay, Colonial paid the $5million ransom.

Not sure why Trumpians want to blame Biden and the Democrats for a private corporations fuckup. I thought private industry was the way to do things. Apparently not.

The pipeline in question, does not supply that part of the US. ?
