I remember that thread and you disagreed with me when I told you 'tapping' only makes that nice click noise in the movies, just like you can here laser fire from x-wings. It's done to add a sound queue. The 'clicking' comes from the sound of someone picking up another extension in the house (rotary style) which tended to drop a little electric noise on the line when the handset was initially lifted. In real life the goverment taps your phone at the central station, there is no clicking noise and you simply will not know your phone is tapped.
There is equipment that ametures use illegally that gets installed into handsets, the demark, phone poles, etc but again they aren't going to make a tell-tale noise to indicate that your phone is now tapped.

p.s. Regarding your ealier thread, to note, I hadn't said you hadn't made some list or had been followed. Only that if your phone was tapped, you wouldn't have known. Your paranoia was your claiming the clicking noise as your evidence.
