I strongly doubt which a private investigator or a company will tap on your phone unless.. they believe your informations over phone will meet their cretarias to cover the cost of what they are doing!

I went to a mosque parking lot once (mosque has cameras outside to monitor cars coming in and out). Next few days I started hearing that clicking noise on my house phone. We even saw a crown victoria type car parked outside that drove away when we came home (I live in a private neighborhood).

of course people on ATOT called me paranoid because they dont believe that the U.S govt would ever do such a thing like that.

I remember that thread and you disagreed with me when I told you 'tapping' only makes that nice click noise in the movies, just like you can here laser fire from x-wings. It's done to add a sound queue. The 'clicking' comes from the sound of someone picking up another extension in the house (rotary style) which tended to drop a little electric noise on the line when the handset was initially lifted. In real life the goverment taps your phone at the central station, there is no clicking noise and you simply will not know your phone is tapped.

There is equipment that ametures use illegally that gets installed into handsets, the demark, phone poles, etc but again they aren't going to make a tell-tale noise to indicate that your phone is now tapped.

Bill

p.s. Regarding your ealier thread, to note, I hadn't said you hadn't made some list or had been followed. Only that if your phone was tapped, you wouldn't have known. Your paranoia was your claiming the clicking noise as your evidence.

(1) You would only hear the physical clicks if someone has physically "tapped" your line between your house and the pole.

(2) With modern "tapping," you shouldn't hear any clicks.

(3) Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean you aren't being "tapped."

I thought they could only tap with a warrant

even if they did have a warrant, they wouldn't tell you they are tapping your phone. wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

hahah

Over the last few days my wife and I have been noticing a "click" occasionally during calls. I have not heard this up until a few days ago. Is it possible that someone might be tapping my phone? I'm on a wireless phone in my house when this happens.

Next question. Is it legal to tap my phone without my knowledge? Can private companies, like insurance companies or private investigators do this without my knowledge?

The reason I suspect a phone tap is that I'm involved in a personal accident case and my lawyer just notified the insurance company of our case two weeks ago.

Advice?

i heard that same noise after i dropped my phone hmmm????

When applying for certain jobs, you have to sign a form allowing a background check. If phone tapping was listed as a method of checking in the form, and you signed it, they can do whatever the hell they want as far as phone tapping goes.

any company that lists phone tapping, torture, flogging, and brainwashing as background check techniques is bound to have a helluva annual review process.....

At my old house my dad found some device connected inside the phone box. The Ameritech guy didn't know what it was. :Q

I know that its possible for the phone company to listen in to any call. Just hook up a t-berd and get up on the line.
