Phillies Fan Tazered After Running Onto Field

Not as much so IMHO, tackling is also more easily controlled. Can't even count the number of times I've been tackled/tripped in pick up games over the years, always came away with some grass burns and a twisted ankle at worse. Without pads of any kind.

who cares if it is 'as much IYO' ... who the hell are you to judge which is more potentially fatal?

the fact is they are both potentially fatal. infact i'd put my $$ on more people dying from being tackled than tasered in general.

let alone this fat ass cop (or all 5 of them) would have outweighed the scrawny 17 year old by like 5:1 weight ratio if they gang tackled him.

Alright, bottom line: I think that with the amount of people they had on him it would have been easy to catch/strong-arm/tackle him and far safer than firing a taser. This is based on some articles I've read and personal experience with being tackled. You're welcome to disagree.

Suffice to say in my mind a taser is a weapon used to subdue a threat. This kid was an idiot, but certainly no threat.

are people really arguing that tackling a high school student could be more fatal than the taser could have been?

have you guys ever been tackled....?

i don't think being tackled is any more dangerous but its not really any safer either. both are deadly if you have medical conditions.

Given this is a tech forum, and not the health and fitness sub-section, these guys are more internet tough than anything else. It's no use arguing with them, although I'd like to take them out into my nice grassy backyard one afternoon and tackle them about 100 times a piece and see what they walk away with. I'm 180 btw.

I think when most of them think tackle they think "NFL lineman tackle onto concrete".

Hell once I mis-tackled a 200lb guy from behind, ended up pulling him on top of me as I slipped and fell back. We both rolled off each other, laughed, and got back to playing a few seconds later. No pain whatsoever.

Except that tackling is less systemic. If one's body can endure the physical trauma of running around evasively like that, it's likely it can endure the physical trauma of a tackle. Said physical endurance is also a lot more self-evident than an internal condition.

lol yea we could make a youtube video of you trying to tackle me and you bouncing off since i'm just a 210lb internet tough guy!!!1!!

all i'm saying is that if you are claiming a taser to a 17yr old kid can be deadly, i'm claiming that so can tackling him.

both of them have about a 99.99999% chance of having exactly 0 harm to the kid.

and yes i made that statistic up.

Very ironic that you talk about how "these people are internet tough" and then talk about how you want to "take them into your backyard and tackle them". Hypocritical much?

And for the record, I do post in Health & Fitness, I guess that exempts me from your cute little stereotype! Hooray, me!

i mean, i play football (usually just pickup games, but used to do high school), and ive only been injured from one tackle, and that involved tons of mud, rain, my cleat sticking to the ground, and a guy that was honestly aiming for my knees.

i get tackled all the time, hell even in basketball its easy to get tripped up and have someone land on top of you.

they should outlaw contact. lol.

i even made this thread a while back!

but man i'm such an internet tough guy pussy!!!

possibly. but again as i said the odds on someone getting hurt with either a tackle or tazer is very low. so i don't think one is really safer then the other. both have very low odds of death unless a medical condition is present. Also very rare but some athletes do have heart conditions that a tazer could be deadly.

Though i do suspect the odds of getting injured are higher with a tackle though. but meh the idiot shouldnt have been on the field.

And fine, assuming the unlikely case I can't figure out a way to tackle or trip you up while you're running, I'll just grab you by the face/nose and lightly slam you into the grass 100 times. Given and received the same treatment over the course of a few Krav Maga sessions. Should provide roughly equivalent trauma to a tackle.

Yes, I can flaunt my e-athletic penis too. 🙂

Injured I actually wouldn't have a problem with. I'd seriously rather see him get a broken arm from a bad tackle attempt than tasered. Harkening back to my view of the taser as a weapon more lethal than fists.

i played football to. from peewee legue to highschool. I was also the smallest guy 90% of the time.

i never got hurt. BUT your post is silly. just because the majority do not get hurt does nto make it safe. each year kids die from football tackles (very rare). nobody is saying to stop tackleing or to ban contact sports. saying such makes you look like a idiot.

also football does not have the most sports injuries. last i read it was cheer leading! heh

I was generalizing. Deal with it.

And yeah, I was being internet tough. Not that it was my original point, but funny how when it doesn't come from you it's suddenly stupid isn't it?

I didn't say it was stupid. I said it was hypocritical. You chastise people for one thing, and then in the same sentence, you do it yourself! Good work, sport.

Anyway, this thread has taken a turn for the stupid and no longer has to do with the OP, so I'm going to excuse myself until you have something relevant to say.

Hypocrisy is stupid no?

And I've said my relevant piece. I'm just astonished there are people saying the taser is actually on par with or a step down from a physical take-down of some nature. Let alone that it was justified with several guys surrounding the moron in question.

But this is ATOT. 😛

the contact part was pure sarcasm.

but i guarantee you that more get hurt from tazers, as a percentage. im not condoning the kids actions, i just would rather see the cops apprehend someone with their own hands than to use a taser when, if they weren't overweight pigs, would have been possible

Dumbass deserved it for running onto the field in the middle of a game. There was proper medical staff available as soon as the kid was hit with the taser and thus and cruelty or "what if" situations that might be questioned are put to rest.

Personally : I think tasering the kid was wrong. But that's really neither here nor there - what I really wonder is if this will discourage future people.

It goes from

- Run out, be on Tv, as long as you can run kinda fast you get to go for awhile, then you get tackled.

to

- You're getting Tazed in front of national TV. BTW you might wet yourself.

Now, if only someone could photoshop the picture so the security guard's hat would have a NY Mets logo on it. That would be total win.

Btw, he was trespassing, you are not supposed to run onto the field of a baseball stadium while the game is going on. The taser was halfway appropriate.

Meh, looked like he deserved it. What the hell did he expect running on the field? Freaking moron.

Stay off the field or get tazered, simple. The players are public figures making millions of dollars and they need to be protected.

This kid will live, and he won't be going onto the field again.
