I ALWAYS get my chips in when I'm ahead. I come all the way to Monte Carlo & some idiot [monkey] takes me on with K-6 - it's what I've come to expect, people call just to eliminate me. I'm the best player here, & these idiots can't play the game. I've had to battle against these idiots all my life.

Mr. Monkey had no comment :p

I was going to say how many people here know who he is.

I'm sure the majority of it is an act.

Well thats never true, you could be 10x better then every other player there, and any large tourney your still not likely to win. Luck is still a huge factor. Skill effects your chances, but its still just that... a chance, you might not get a bad beat etc...

Ahh, that old excuse - you can't expect everyone to play like you'd want to play, any deviation from that and they're labeled as "inexperienced" because they call with something surprisingly low... it's part of the game and you cant' say someone doesn't know how to play it, if you get beat out, you get beat out

For the most part, that is true. But he doesn't fully understand (1) what a bluff is or (2) that if you can get into a pot cheaply, then do it in case you happen to hit the flop. There is more to poker than just the odds.

Case in point. Look at the winning hand on 2005 Main Event (I won't post it in case people here haven't seen the end yet).

I get screwed on the #2 part all the time, and it's really dissillusioned me to playing poker. For instance, I had someone with a 2-9 off-suit hit when only a 2 flopped, so they stayed in with a pair of 2s. After the turn, she got another 9 which gave her 2-pair. Again she kept up with the bets even though some were raising, and there was a K and a J also on the table. She got a 2 on the river, and I knew the only cards she could have beat me with were a 2-9, and I KNEW she wouldn't have bet as much as she bet after the flop and the turn with only a 2-9 in her hand, so I thought for sure I had her beat. It was a stupid play on her part IMO, but she won, so I guess I'm the dumb one.

I haven't played since. Maybe Phil should look into another line of work.

So then why do the same people always end up at the final table?

I read an interview with him somewhere that he makes 8 figure from his business side of poker, playing in tournaments is chunk change for him.
