The mod team for P&N is awesome at keeping a level head, and keeping that place from turning into a cesspit. They have my undying admiration for moderating P&N, it is just a different beast than all other forums on AT.

I respectfully disagree with at least some of that assessment. The portions I disagree with can't be directly referenced because of specific rules in place that prevent me from voicing my opinion on that topic.

i agree with your last statement. I also like how some threads are "troll" when voicing a particular viewpoint but threads that voice the flip side of the same point are allowed, but if we say anything we will get flamed/put on vacation.

Not counting mod bias of course? 😉

usually though, they all do a great job keeping us teetering on the line between crazy and not as crazy.

I think the only thing not tolerated there are signatures.

I don't know how to respond, I try to be fair as I possibly can and if I'm not I'd hope you'd know that you can take your complaint to Derek. He's very proactive and doesn't hesitate to rule against us if he feels we're wrong.
Well I guess I did know how to respond.
I hope nothing changes and agree that the mods offer a service that I don't think I would have the stomach to do. p&n is a cesspool because it accurately reflects politics and news - in both idiocy and thoughtfulness. If people are shocked by what's said - both whiplash and thought provoking comments - then they should open their eyes or stick their head back in the sand (or go back to looking vacantly at their cable tv).Originally posted by: Evadman

There's a difference between voicing an opinion, and a mod call out. I believe that is the rule you are referring to. Like Derek has said eleventy-billion times, we want feedback, but the feedback must be constructive and in the correct format/forum. Along those lines, I am moving this thread to PFI, since it is basically a discussion on the rules of P&N.

See, like this is a mod call out. Again. *sigh* Look for an Email from Derek soon, if you haven't gotten it already.
Anyway, we have conservative and liberal mods both working P&N, so we are trying to be even handed. We get complaints and praise from both liberal and conservative members, so we know we are doing a damn good job.
You can all make the personal choice to go somewhere else to post about Politics and News if you think that we are not the best place to post, but you are here because you like it here. If you didn't like it here, then why are you still here?

Evadman, again I can only partially agree. I think most of you are pretty fair, clear thinking people. But the reality is that there a couple mods that have no business being here. I've seen complaint after complaint about them, I've read their angry responses to people that disagree with them, I've seen one of them threaten and demean another mod, I've never once seen any action taken to control them.
So if you exclude the out of control mods, then yes, you guys do a bang up job.
