"PERSONAL FLAMES WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"-p/n board description

SAWYER

I just noticed this

That's like Sudan saying rape and murder will not be tolerated.

This has run it's course and beyond by running off topic. It's locked.

What was intended and what was changed when Derek showed up are two sides of a coin.

They still crack down (based on Mod comments), but the guidelines seem much more lienent.

Elizabeth: Wait! You can't flame me! You have to take me to ATOT. According to the Code of the Order of the Brethren of P&N...

Barbossa: First, your return to ATOT was not part of our negotiations nor our agreement so I must do nothing. And secondly, you must be a partisan for the partisan's code to apply and you're not. And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. Welcome aboard P&N Miss Turner.

I leave moderating P&N to mods with thicker skin then I. I would probably ban almost everyone in there based on the comments I see 😛 That being said, I think we have the best P&N forum on the planet. The mod team for P&N is awesome at keeping a level head, and keeping that place from turning into a cesspit. They have my undying admiration for moderating P&N, it is just a different beast than all other forums on AT.

P&N was basically created because none of the Mods wanted anything to do with various types of threads. So P&N was kinda abandoned by the Mods for a long time. By the time they returned to do some Modding, certain things had been so entrenched that they more or less had to only deal with extreme shenanigans. It should have been more structred and Modded from the start, but it's too late to whine about that.

edit: that's the way it appears to me anyway. From someone who has been in P&N since its' inception.

I respectfully disagree with at least some of that assessment. The portions I disagree with can't be directly referenced because of specific rules in place that prevent me from voicing my opinion on that topic.

I must have missed that section of P&N on my last visit! 😛

i agree with your last statement. I also like how some threads are "troll" when voicing a particular viewpoint but threads that voice the flip side of the same point are allowed, but if we say anything we will get flamed/put on vacation. usually though, they all do a great job keeping us teetering on the line between crazy and not as crazy.

Not counting mod bias of course? 😉

There's a difference between voicing an opinion, and a mod call out. I believe that is the rule you are referring to. Like Derek has said eleventy-billion times, we want feedback, but the feedback must be constructive and in the correct format/forum. Along those lines, I am moving this thread to PFI, since it is basically a discussion on the rules of P&N.

See, like this is a mod call out. Again. *sigh* Look for an Email from Derek soon, if you haven't gotten it already.

Anyway, we have conservative and liberal mods both working P&N, so we are trying to be even handed. We get complaints and praise from both liberal and conservative members, so we know we are doing a damn good job.

You can all make the personal choice to go somewhere else to post about Politics and News if you think that we are not the best place to post, but you are here because you like it here. If you didn't like it here, then why are you still here?

I don't know how to respond, I try to be fair as I possibly can and if I'm not I'd hope you'd know that you can take your complaint to Derek. He's very proactive and doesn't hesitate to rule against us if he feels we're wrong.

Well I guess I did know how to respond.

you guys do a stand up job, it is one reason i come here, and not to the cesspools that other forums have become.

As a whole, yes, the Mods are great. The only ones that cross the line are the ones that, for whatever reason, are untouchable. And that's probably why they cross the line, they know that there are no consequences.

Anyways, you've either gotta learn to live with it, or go some place else, because nothing is going to change. IMO, the good far outweights the bad, you just can't let it get to you. Not complaining, just my 2 cents.

Not trying to suck up here, but IMO you are very fair.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go wipe this brown crap off my nose.

I hope nothing changes and agree that the mods offer a service that I don't think I would have the stomach to do. p&n is a cesspool because it accurately reflects politics and news - in both idiocy and thoughtfulness. If people are shocked by what's said - both whiplash and thought provoking comments - then they should open their eyes or stick their head back in the sand (or go back to looking vacantly at their cable tv).

And the idea that such 'language' or 'attitude' is only found in the p&n category at atforums is not based on reality.

Evadman, again I can only partially agree. I think most of you are pretty fair, clear thinking people. But the reality is that there a couple mods that have no business being here. I've seen complaint after complaint about them, I've read their angry responses to people that disagree with them, I've seen one of them threaten and demean another mod, I've never once seen any action taken to control them.
So if you exclude the out of control mods, then yes, you guys do a bang up job.

But for those mods who do get complaints in one area, they get many praises in another. Most of us just prefer to avoid the P&N cesspool and I applaud any mod who dares wander in there.
