The bible, the Quran, all filled with NUMEROUS hypocracies, yet people make excuses for them and interpret them in 1,000,000 different ways and they all claim they're right.

It's one of the Ten Commandments.
No it isn't.
Yes it is "Though shall not take the Lords name in vain"
Really think about what that means.

Trying reading the Ten Commandments and then you might understand your friend's stance.

Ten commandments don't really apply anymore. By following the New Testament you will follow most of the commandments, though.

They do apply, they were never revoked. I think you're thinking about the nullification of the old testament.
Yeah, why don't you just keep the New Testament then? Why have the Old Testament cannonized in the Bible? The New Testament has a different law...one that goes "the high road." Good, uplifting speech is discussed by Paul.

The ten commandments also includes "you shall not worship any other god..." etc. Does that mean he should find someone praying to a different higher power in front of him and yell at them too? My point is, we all have our own faiths, you can't freak out because you have different religious values or views than others. Someone violating one commandment in front of him versus another....i dunno

Look. I-- I'd had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife was, 'That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah.'

Oooooh!

Blasphemy!

it used to make me cringe as well, but i stopped going to church and got over it. language doesnt offend me anymore, at all.

and saying "god damn" is only in vain because he wont actually damn the people i tell him to.

They are part of the OT. Why wouldn't they be revoked/nullified? Colossians 2:14 "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;" Handwriting of ordinances=Law of Moses (including commandments)

I'm referring to my god who doesn't give a sh!t about these things. What made you think I was talking to/about your god?

As an American, your friend should realize that while he has the right to believe in what he chooses to and practice it freely, so do other people.

Simply hearing someone say it is not going to send you to hell. So really he just needs to stop being uptight.

I'd think that relgious people would be more open-minded than non-religious, seeing as they believe in things with little to no evidence of existence, but it's funny how so many deeply religious people are sworn to one mindset for life.

(Funny enough, this is coming from a christian.)

Romans 15:4 "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope."

I don't think you can fully understand the new without the old.

It's like someone speaking very badly about someone you love alot and hold in high-esteem (Mom, Dad, Grandparent, etc.). To a Christian it's the worst thing you can say because you're taking God's name in vain, which is a big no-no.

Enough of the scriptures bible beaters, why don't we all just make one giant circle jerk and share the love? That's what heaven will be like.

But I'm talking about MY Grandpa, not yours. Your grandpa is not the only grandparent in the world.

If someone shouted "radioouman" every time they were mad, and I was their maker, I would be pissed at them too.

until i was about 18 or 19, i'd never say Goddamn (i'm jewish), then i decided to drop it. but personally, it makes me cringe more when people say "cheese and crackers!" instead of "jesus christ!" the meaning is the same, do they really think God cares which words you say when you mean the same thing?

If someone I wasn't even talking to took exception with my language, I'd tell them to mind their own business.

It's one of the few phrases that I internally wince when I hear. I don't make a point to 'rip into' someone about it, though. If they choose to speak that way, that's their choice.

I can hear a person call another person a, "Dirty fvcking cvnt rag!" and I'll laugh but I wince anytime I hear "GD" or "Jesus Christ"!

Lol that reminds me of Orthodox Jews dialing with a stick instead of touching the numbers with their fingers for whatever reason that they can't use electrical stuff on Saturdays.

"If I use the phone without touching the buttons, G_d won't know what the fvck."
