The ten commandments also includes "you shall not worship any other god..." etc. Does that mean he should find someone praying to a different higher power in front of him and yell at them too? My point is, we all have our own faiths, you can't freak out because you have different religious values or views than others. Someone violating one commandment in front of him versus another....i dunno

it used to make me cringe as well, but i stopped going to church and got over it. language doesnt offend me anymore, at all.

As an American, your friend should realize that while he has the right to believe in what he chooses to and practice it freely, so do other people.
Simply hearing someone say it is not going to send you to hell. So really he just needs to stop being uptight.
I'd think that relgious people would be more open-minded than non-religious, seeing as they believe in things with little to no evidence of existence, but it's funny how so many deeply religious people are sworn to one mindset for life.
(Funny enough, this is coming from a christian.)

Romans 15:4 "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope."
I don't think you can fully understand the new without the old.

It's like someone speaking very badly about someone you love alot and hold in high-esteem (Mom, Dad, Grandparent, etc.). To a Christian it's the worst thing you can say because you're taking God's name in vain, which is a big no-no.

until i was about 18 or 19, i'd never say Goddamn (i'm jewish), then i decided to drop it. but personally, it makes me cringe more when people say "cheese and crackers!" instead of "jesus christ!" the meaning is the same, do they really think God cares which words you say when you mean the same thing?
If someone I wasn't even talking to took exception with my language, I'd tell them to mind their own business.
It's one of the few phrases that I internally wince when I hear. I don't make a point to 'rip into' someone about it, though. If they choose to speak that way, that's their choice.
