Got a call on my business line this morning. So I pick it up and she starts asking if some woman worked here. Considering it's a home based business with only my wife and me the obvious answer is no. So then I have to explain to her that she's never worked here and I have no idea who this person is. The woman verifies the number then they hang up and I figure that's the end of it.
Then she calls again asking if I'm sure she isn't here or if I know something about this woman. I tell her I've had this number for 2 years and I know nothing about this woman. I tell her to call 411(information) and she asks me if she had called 411 and was talking to them
rolleye.gif

Then she tells me how the woman got married and she doesn't know her last name anymore. So finally I convince her that this number is a dead end in her search and she hangs up.
I suppose I could have plugged my business and told her to call if she needed any computer services but I'd be afraid to have this woman call for computer help. :p

Anyways no I don't want a cookie or anything (unless it's Bill Gate's charge account cookie) :p

Anyone else have any wierd wrong number stories?

Back in High School I got a call from some gal who said she found my number in her address book and was trying to figure out who I was & how it got there. We spent 20 minutes trying to find some link: work, school, friends, family, whatever. No connections at all. Anyway, she was like "So what's up?" We wound up chatting for a while, and I tried to get her to meet up but she didn't want to. (Then why did you waste all that time talking to me...?!? :) ) Weirdest part was, she called again about a year later with the exact same story, "Uh... you're number is in my address book, who are you?" Didn't we already go over this? LOL By that time, I figured she had to be some loser pothead, and told her to bug off. *shrug*

One of my friend's brothers was in visiting another city and was bored so he looked up his name in the telephone directory. He was surprised to see someone with his whole name in there since it is kind of an unusual name. He called the guy and chatted with him for about 10 minutes until the guy said, who is this? My friend said "I'm you!" and hung up.

I have voicemail on my home phone number. Our greeting message actually says "This is Josh and Jessie, we're not home"....blah blah blah...and people manage to call our number, are forced to listen to our greeting message, and STILL proceed to leave a message for Mike, or Bob, or Chuck or whoever.

This happens regularly.

Well, my old 2nd line # used to be Blockbusters number... and occasionally I'd get a call which was intended for Blockbuster... people would ask if such and such video is in stock, and I'd just make stuff up.

"No sir, we quit carrying that title"

"Sure, would you like me to reserve a copy for you?"

"Yeah, we have it, but it's 10.95 instead of our regular 3.99 price"

I'll occasionally get a call here at work that has been misdirected by the morons that work our front desk. I work for the CDC doing STD research, so sometimes these calls consist of me answering: "STD research...can I help you?" and then the caller launching into some story about how they have these oozing sores that they think they got from their ex-boyfriend, blah, blah, blah. Then I have to cut them off and say that I only do benchtop work and don't handle any clinical cases and that they need to go see their personal doc. You can imagine how embarassed they are to have just told all that personal crap to some random guy on the phone who isn't any kind of doctor. :p

our old number must have been very close to or a recylced number from a sherriff's office.

we used to get at least one message on our machine a week about various felonies, bail hearings, lawyers etc...
you would think anyone with half a brain could tell that a standard home voicemail message was NOT a sherriff's offoce.

We used to have a number at work that was two digits transposed from being the number for the local Sears warehouse. We constantly received calls from people asking if their order was in, etc. One day some little old lady calls asking about her stove. I told her she had the wrong number and she hung up. She called again and I explained that she had called the wrong number (again) and gave her the correct number. She called right back, and I again patiently expained that this was -not- Sears warehouse and that she needed to call xxx-xxxx. On the fourth call I picked up (sure enough, her again). "Sears Warehouse....Yes, ma'am.....Your stove is in. It's ready for pickup, come on down." :D

I had one at home a while back where some guy was wasted and a friend was supposed to be picking him up since he couldn't drive. I guess his friend was running late or something because the guy left like four messages on our machine along the lines of "Yo man.....where the f*ck you at? I f*cking called you 20 m*therf*cking minutes ago!" etc, with each successive message longer, louder, more incoherent, and with a higher cuss/word ratio than the last. I got a good laugh out of that when I got home and listened to them.

I had a voice mail on my phone one morning of two girls talking about giving head with accompanying noises in the background.

That one got deleted pretty damn fast.

We get wrong calls all the time, this is why we let the answering machine pickup. My wife has a message saying that it is a residential phone numbers, but we usually get called to do bug spraying, checking for termites, dry cleaning, you name it..

Hehe, I have the same thing happen to me except in Korean. She's always looking for someone named "Ricky" and in the off chance I pick up before the machine does to explain that she has the wrong number, she'll call back minutes later. :p

The funniest for me was my boss.

He was out during a long weekend and someone hacked into his answering machine. Since the code is 2 digits, I guess it wasn't too difficult. The guy then proceeded to erase his normal greeting with a long graphic homosexual one. Then to top it off, the guy posted the number on some gay chat site. When he got home his machine was filled with about 50 graphic messages from guys getting off. He played it for me and it was hilarious!!

He suspects it was a friend of his that did it :)

my friend andrea's home fone number is the old number for toronto crime stoppers and people still call it.

one time i got a call from a girl named lisa and i was expecting my friend lisa to call, we got about half way into a conversation when we realised that yes her name was lisa and we knew people by the same name but we werent talking about the same people.
i actually met her a few months later through friends, it was strange.

Last week I was trying to get a hold of my niece.
I called up another family member and got "her" phone number @ work which I then dialed.
When the phone was picked up, I asked for Kristy Williamson and the person transferred me to her line.
When she picked up I said "Hey, this is your uncle." And then she said something to the effect of "Gosh, I haven't heard from you in a long time!! I've been thinking about you etc.."

But the voice sounded wrong. Not like hers. So I started asking questions.
Turn's out it WASN'T her.

Though how weird is THAT, that I would call a wrong number, and get someone with the EXACT same name as who I was calling for??
