These sanctions were against football, not the school. The AD is punished--they are separate anyway. The admins outside of the AD are being punished, but this is football that the NCAA is going after.

The trustees going after the NCAA after the NCAA was ready to end football for good. What a bunch of dingbats. Hell, I hope they get that signature invalidated, so that the NCAA can then give them only one option.

jokes on you, ncaa has no real power over the schools other than them controlling the bowl games.

and these are the new trustees so it's rather stupid to wonder why they haven't been shitcanned yet. as was said here before the president backdoored this total approval without letting anyone other than head of the board know about it; now that sounds like a coverup.

Yeah, I wished PSU hadn't accepted the current punishment b/c I wanted to see the program eliminated though I don't think four years would have been enough.

It would have been better to kick them out of the NCAA and let PSU Football find some opponents to play. :biggrin:

Looks like reality finally took hold for at least a majority of the trustees. These little escapades only serve to reinforce the notion that there is something seriously wrong with Penn's culture and decision making process. What else can explain them having the stones to suggest that the NCAA deal can be improved upon somehow when the only alternative on the table was far worse.

The main recruiting letters from Penn State over the last number of years has included the quote "Success with Honor".

Over and over again, I have heard "Success with Honor" from the PSU grads that I know, several of which I work with on a daily basis. I had to endure the now ironic "Legends and Liars" T-shirt one of my colleagues wore when Tressel was caught lying for Pryor, Posey, and Heron. And when the NCAA sanctions came down against OSU, all I heard from these guys was "No Honor, No Success".

Thankfully, the two guys that I work with, have successfully extracted themselves from the "JoePa is God" mindset, and come to the realization that he was not really in control of the PSU Football program for maybe the last 15 to 20 years. When you shit your pants on the sideline during a game, that may be a clue to your AD that you need to retire.

Yep, not sure why he is so adamant in saying the NCAA overstepped their bounds. It's either accept the sanctions or go play elsewhere.

PSU is bleeding recruits as expected:
Hackenberg is a main piece to O'Brien's 2013 recruiting class. Two other key members of that class, Greg Webb (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek) and cornerback Ross Douglas (Avon, Ohio/Avon), have decommitted.

Amazing that #1 QB Hackberg still wants to go there. He must not care about the NFL since he'll be sacked so many times and injured that he'll wish he never played football in the first place. I'd be scared to QB behind that O-line/receivers.

(CNN) -- Penn State's legal battles continued Wednesday with the university's primary general liability insurer filing a motion claiming coverage should be denied because the administration failed to disclose what it knew about former coach Jerry Sandusky's behavior, according to legal documents.

The motion, filed in common pleas court by the Pennsylvania Manufacturer's Association, says Penn State did not provide it with information relevant to the insurable risk the association assumed. The association has already sued Penn State over the coverage of one of Sandusky's victims' claims against the university, filed in November 2011.

The association has insured Penn State under general liability policies since 1976.

"It would be unlawful and contradictory to public policy to require PMA to provide coverage to PSU under any policy issued to PSU after May 1998 with respect to PSU's concealment of Sandusky's sexually abusive conduct ... and failure to take appropriate action to prevent Sandusky from molesting minors," the motion read.

You are attempting to perpetuate the culture by accepting that there needs to be a punishment to the culture.

Many of those people also supported the program.

Look at the supporters hear.

Same attitude.

No people are being punished other than those that participated in the actual incidents.

People that came to Penn State to play football are being allowed to transfer to other schools to play.

People that came to Penn state for academics are not being punished.
Other sports programs at Penn State are not being punished.

So who actually is being punished and how?

Students because they are not going to be able to play at bowl games?
The team is not being prevented from playing.

Yup, they will just finish in last for the next 10 years. Not like they were exactly the cream of the crop in the past 10 years anyway, they made a BCS bowl what, once or twice? That is shit for the kind of recruiting they have, they are like the Georgia of the B10.

All in all, they still get to play their shitty games and the fanboi's/alum still get to pay their shitty money to watch a shitty team lose.

The students who are good enough to be drafted into the NFL, they will easily move to another college and get drafted into the NFL.

The students who are not good enough to be drafted into the NFL, they get a head-start on building an obtainable future for themselves.

The diehard fans of Penn State Football, they have the insufferable punishment of watching a team that will not be competitive. That's it.

The only people being punished are those who obsessively value football over what is truly important in life.

The culture is what led to football being more important than stopping a child molester. The culture needs to be eliminated, the current punishment is not enough.

Wrong is wrong, I don't care if they are being nice about it. Culture did not say it was ok to cover up the rape of children, Joe Paterno did. Punishing people because they support that monster is wrong. Being stupid is not a crime.
