I believe this one too. I heard that story back in 2004(?) where Spanier wanted to oust him and he kicked him out of the house (or whatever the actual detail was, this is probably exaggerated). Clearly Spanier is in a much weaker position than Joe that's why he wasn't able to do anything with it.

Curley though clearly was Joe's whipping boy, and would do whatever his God asked him to do. I'm anxiously waiting if he would finally flip on Paterno in his criminal proceedings (and do a great tell-all story) now that he's facing some serious prison time and Paterno is dead. His loyalty will be tested!

You can see that this article is taking the stance as Paterno's apologist, bringing up 'loyalty' as the reason behind everything he did to cover up Jerry's crime. I for one refuse to believe that 'loyalty' is behind this cover up, especially that there are three other people involved in it as well. I mean, they can't *all* be super best buddies and so loyal to each other and conspire.

Unless you are one of those Paterno's apologist, I think you should take this article with a whole sack of salt 🙂

This cover up was never about personal loyalty or strong personal feelings toward each other, it's all about the Penn State's name and how everyone involved will do everything they could (regardless of whether they even liked each other) to protect it so it's always perfect.

I'm just pointing out the hyprocrocy of all those who claim that this is a PSU problem and a problem that resulted from PSU culture.

In reality this is a problem with human nature and the culture of our entire society. To think, like many of the people in this thread, that by eliminating Penn State football that this problem will somehow dissapear is ridiculous.

You aren't going to solve child abuse by punishing students, players, and residents who had nothing to do with them problem. Even some of the victims have come out and said they think it's stupid.

People in power will always try to maintain that power by any means necessary. That has been and always will be human nature. This could have happened at any University, charity, organization, company, church, etc., anywhere in the world. Thinking anything different is a dangerous path and just shows how little you know and/or care about child abuse.

He's not saying that at all. Nor is he saying that other schools/institutions haven't been involved in such behavior. He's saying it's unlikely that they are, and you know what? He's right. (other than Notre Dame, I guess. That many priests on campus and you're almost certainly going to have a few pedophiles).

In fact, what do you think will happen if another school is caught in such an act where the football's program takes precedence over the school's integrity and covers up a criminal act? It'll probably be even worse than the penalties Penn State faces now.

If you don't understand that there are specific factors that exist in various institutions, from churches to football programs, that lead to attempted and successful cover ups of reprehensible behavior, and that PSU football is a textbook case of those factors aligning, then good luck. They sent a very clear message to ALL the schools: If football takes precedent over your school's integrity then we will come down hard. If you want to be a football school then you have that right, but if you cover up criminal activity or engage in any sort of behavior that affects your entire institution negatively in order to protect your football program, you're going to get fucked.
