If you hadn't already seen, VP Pence went to a Colts/49ers game in Indianapolis, and left in a huff out of supposed 'disrespect' for the country from player protests (never mind that they're infinitely more patriotic than Pence will ever be). Surely he's devoted to America if he gives up a chance to see his beloved Colts, right?
There's only one problem: it was all a publicity stunt.
He told journalists to sit in vans in case he left the game early (read: he expected to leave the game early), and the White House social team was ready to post about this 'courageous' walkout virtually the second he left his seat. Pence even reposted a photo from a Colts game in 2014, so lazy was the attempt to make this seem like spur-of-the-moment outrage. There was clearly no intention of sticking around for the full game; he couldn't have cared less about the Colts.
Now, you might ask what the problem is given that it doesn't really change the White House's message. Well, it's simple: he flew from Las Vegas to Indianapolis just for a PR ploy. Knowing that he needs official transportation and security, I suspect he burned through hundreds of thousands of dollars (and diverted time from, you know, actually running the country) simply to pretend to be shocked about a protest. It's not the most egregious example of waste in the Trump administration, but it's certainly a textbook example.
