Anyone who thinks the parties are the same, as you do, is bogglingly, irresponsibly uninformed.

Anyone who thinks the parties are not the same, as you do, is a blind partisan hack. Republicans and Democrats suck equally.

QFT!

I guess the REAL issue here is.... I can't really believe a person can travel back and forth from the east coast to the west coast. OK, well, maybe I can believe it. I know a lot of people rack up over 100+ miles a day on the automobile just to get to work every day...

I guess for me is.... If she wanted the job then she should be fired or relocated. It's asinine that this country would put up with this type of crap.... She should pay for her own way if the chooses to be stupid enough to live on the west coast...

BUT....... I wondering how many OTHERS are doing this... High up in congress that we don't know about? How much more $$ are we wasting away flying idiots back and forth thousands of miles away from work and home?

That to me is the real issue. I bet they don't even want you to know. AND why should the American public have to pick up the bill is anyones guess. I wonder how many taxi cab bills..etc...etc... tax payers pay for ... It's BS...

It's all ME ME ME... And the real sad part is? If you think this is bad, just think of all the ME ME ME BS that we pay for that we don't even know about. Like TOP of the line health care, TOP of the line MEALS ... Top of the line Suits job clothing... I wonder what other perks we are picking up for the idiots that run this country...?

It's NO wonder that most of them just nod when Bush says JUMP... I would too if I were getting that type of treatment and secretly hosing the tax payers...

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/02/09/pelosi.plane/

Looks like Pelosi did not ask for the plane. The request was made by the the house sergeant at arms which is a non partisan post in charge with law enforcement at the house. Basically a policeman, and he was doing it for security reasons.

It appears this is a spin attempt by the Washington Times. Isn't that the paper owned by the moonies?

House security chief: Pelosi didn't ask for plane; I did

Story Highlights
? House sergeant at arms says he requested plane for Pelosi

? Pelosi accused of asking for more expensive plane than her predecessor's
? Pelosi is striking back against claims
? "I think this is much ado about not a whole lot," says White House spokesman

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not request a larger plane for personal use to travel cross-country without stopping, Bill Livingood, the House sergeant at arms, said Thursday.

Livingood said the request was his, and he made it for security reasons.

"The fact that Speaker Pelosi lives in California compelled me to request an aircraft that is capable of making non-stop flights for security purposes, unless such an aircraft is unavailable," Livingood, who has been at his post for 11 years, said in a written statement.

"I regret that an issue that is exclusively considered and decided in a security context has evolved into a political issue," the statement said.

Pelosi is striking back against accusations she asked for a plane larger and more expensive than the one used by former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, a claim published last week in The Washington Times.

The Times article, headlined "Pelosi's Power Trip -- Non-stop Nancy Seeks Flight of Fancy," led the Republican National Committee to send out a research briefing and blast Pelosi on the House floor.

The article said Pelosi asked the Pentagon for "routine access" to a military plane "not only for herself and her staff, but also for relatives and for other members of the California delegation," quoting sources "familiar with the discussions."

"I have never asked for a larger plane," Pelosi said. "This is a myth that they are talking about on the floor."

The White House also stood behind Pelosi.

"As speaker of the House, she is entitled to military transport and ... the proper arrangements are being made between the Sergeant of Arms Office in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Department of Defense," White House spokesman Tony Snow said.

"We think it's appropriate," he added. "And so, again, I think this is much ado about not a whole lot. It is important for the speaker to have this kind of protection and travel."

On Wednesday, the Pentagon sent a letter to Pelosi's office with guidance about travel regulations. The letter said the military would make "every effort" to provide a non-stop flight to Pelosi's home district, but "such support is subject to aircraft type and availability and therefore may not always be guaranteed."

Pelosi's family would have to reimburse the Air Force if they used the aircraft, the letter stated.

Meanwhile, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pennsylvania, chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, said on Thursday that he's planning hearings this spring on executive and congressional travel on military aircraft.

Murtha said he's requested from the Defense Department records on travel and logistics from the past two years. He asked the Defense Department to hand those over within a month.

Some House Republicans on Thursday were pressing for an amendment on the floor on Pelosi's use of a military plane, according to Murtha.

Murtha predicted that Pelosi would end up getting a plane that would be able to fly across country without stopping to refuel.

"I'm seldom wrong on these kinds of predictions," he said.

Well you flip-flopped about a hundred times, so yeah it's pretty confusing. Now, since you're so sure that Dems and Repubs are equally corrupt, can you prove it? You know with some actual facts? A matrix showing corruption scandals from both parties over the last 10 years would be a good start. Compare/contrast.

I never "flip-flopped", I made a blanket statement and assumed that people would understand what I meant, obviously Dems and Repubs are not exactly the same on the key issues that keep their base happy.

No, of course I don't have some ridiculous matrix. Do you go around asking all of the liberals for a matrix showing how horrible and dirty the Republicans are compared to the Democrats? I have seen plenty of posts about how much worse Republicans are than Democrats, have you asked any of them for "A matrix showing corruption scandals from both parties over the last 10 years would be a good start. Compare/contrast."?

You're the only one thus far in this thread making such claims. Back it up.

Not really - this is the biggest non-story of the year. Only ones that seem to be making a stink over nothing are the House GOP and their lock-steppers right here at P&N.

If the GOP had any sense, they'd wait until they had something substantial to level against the Congressional Dems. I won't hold my breath.

Good, well my request goes for the OP (Shivetya) as well. Let's see some sort of proof. Any shred of evidence that both parties are exactly even in terms of corruption. Neither of you can't back up your claim because you don't have any proof.

Alternately, stop attempting to raise personal opinion to the same level as fact.

Nice try. I never made those claims.

Well, what is it then? Are both parties corrupt, or is one party more corrup than the other?

Anyways, plenty of other people have made that claim, have you asked them for proof? You know as well as I do that there is no way to prove if one party is more corrupt than the other, yet you still ask for proof, why is that?

Hehe, another issue where the Republican hate machine makes itself out to be a collective of fools.

Yep, and look how enthralled they are by their own knee-jerk reactions - despite the story being a non-issue as per Harvey's link.

But they, this is what they do. Not like there are more important things to debate. Like say, the Pentagon manipulating pre-war intelligence...

Heh.

Poor poor pathetic Republicans:

2-9-2007 House GOP blasts Pelosi for plane request

For most of the past five weeks, House Republicans could do little else but watch as majority Democrats passed major legislation without giving them a chance to propose changes or offer alternatives.

So when they finally got a chance Thursday to air pent-up frustrations over how Democrats were running things, the Republicans decided to make some noise ? and how.

They aimed high, all the way to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record).

The California Democrat went before the House Science Committee in the morning to champion her commitment to do something about global warming, a rare appearance for a leader of the House.

She did so as reports swirled on Capitol Hill that she had requested a bigger, swankier government airplane than her Republican predecessor had used for trips back to her home district when Congress isn't meeting.

For Republicans, feeling muzzled and still blue over losing control of the House, the irony was too good to ignore.

"The jet that Pelosi has produces 10,000 pounds of carbon dioxide an hour, far more than the previous speaker used," said Rep. Patrick McHenry (news, bio, voting record), R-N.C. Pelosi's predecessor was Rep. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill.

"By commandeering a huge government plane for her personal transport to California, this is totally contradictory to the alarm bells we heard her ringing in the Science Committee just a few hours ago," Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (news, bio, voting record), R-Calif., said.

The Republicans' amendment to the alternative fuels bill amounted to a dig at Pelosi; it specifically mentioned passenger planes "capable of transcontinental flights."

And so it went for nearly two hours. The bill passed 400-3, with the amendment included.

The Pentagon informed Pelosi's staff this week that she would get a plane, based on availability, and that nonstop service could not be guaranteed.

Pelosi said Thursday that she'd be happy to fly commercial.

"We never asked for a larger plane.

This is a myth that (the Republicans) are talking about on the floor," she said. "They have nothing to say to the American people about the war, the economy, global warming and the rest. So they have this game they're playing."

Get back to me when you can level actual charges against Pelosi for something other than some third party requesting that she get a bigger plane. For fscks sake, try a little harder next time, k?

Wow. That's the most misguided attack on the politicians I've seen in a long time.

There's a reason they call them representatives - they represent districts or states. They are required to have homes in their districts, and they visit the people in them.

Wow...it never ceases to amaze me as to how the extreme left views the world. Did you actually read what Genx87 said and comprehended the intent of the words you read? If you did, then maybe...just maybe...you would have a clue as to where Genx87 is coming from as well as many others including myself.

You polarize everything to fit into your little black and white world and act as if the Dems are white robed Saints and noble beyond reproach. Your 'Dem poop don't stink' mentality gives us a glimpse into just how deluded a human mind can become when people adopt extremist ideologies....right or left. Savvy?
