why not? if they're truly bushbots then they're not making hay of this just as the whitehouse never did (though, pelosi claimed the whole thing was from the whitehouse and not some isolated congresspeople as it actually is).

Back on the House floor, 83-year-old Rep. Ralph Hall, R-Texas, offered that it probably would be cheaper if he rode the bus home to Dallas every weekend, but that that issue could be debated some other time.

"The only airplane I'm thinking about," he said, "is the one I wanted to be on at 12:30, heading for Texas."

Well gee, it's nice to be able to unequivocally prove that the Washington Times is a biased little rag and that the GOP idiots in the House apparently take their cues from the trumped-up bullsh!t they read therein. Good going morons!

House security chief: Pelosi didn't ask for plane; I did

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not request a larger plane for personal use to travel cross-country without stopping, Bill Livingood, the House sergeant at arms, said Thursday.

Livingood said the request was his, and he made it for security reasons.

"The fact that Speaker Pelosi lives in California compelled me to request an aircraft that is capable of making non-stop flights for security purposes, unless such an aircraft is unavailable," Livingood, who has been at his post for 11 years, said in a written statement.

"I regret that an issue that is exclusively considered and decided in a security context has evolved into a political issue," the statement said.

[...]

The Times article, headlined "Pelosi's Power Trip -- Non-stop Nancy Seeks Flight of Fancy," led the Republican National Committee to send out a research briefing and blast Pelosi on the House floor.

The article said Pelosi asked the Pentagon for "routine access" to a military plane "not only for herself and her staff, but also for relatives and for other members of the California delegation," quoting sources "familiar with the discussions."

"I have never asked for a larger plane," Pelosi said. "This is a myth that they are talking about on the floor."

And yet when asked for copies of communications between Pelosi's office and the Sargent the response was "NO".

So she definitely is hiding something. Hopefully there is a full investigation or at least a hearing. From the tone of her remarks she's absolutely backpeddling and blaming it on somebody else. Typical dem. Can't just take responsibility for her actions/mistakes (she even tried to pull the "they're disciminating against me because I'm a woman card". I wonder how many times she is gonna pull that one out?

Anyone who thinks the parties are not the same, as you do, is a blind partisan hack. Republicans and Democrats suck equally.

If they are the same, then who have you voted for the last few elections? They should be 50-50 split, right?

No, it wouldn't be a 50-50 split. I live in a state controlled overwhelmingly by Democrats, so I vote for every Republican running for office in this state (unless I completely disagree with them of course, then I vote 3rd party). I don't want my state or federal government controlled by one party, Republicans or Democrats. I still believe the Republicans to be the lesser of two evils, but if I strongly disagree with a Republican candidate then I go 3rd party. If I find a Democrat that I like then I will vote for them.

Although the Republicans have gone off track from most conservative issues, I still think that they are better than Dems when it comes to some of the more important issues to me, gun control, taxes, etc..

If my state was overwhelmingly controlled by Republicans and I didn't like what was going on, then I would vote for mostly Dems or 3rd party. If GWB ran again, I would vote 3rd party, and looking at the possible candidates for 08, I will probably be voting for a 3rd party candidate.

But you just said they were both the same...

I clarified what I said in another post. I shouldn't have said that they are exactly the same, my mistake, but there is barely any difference between the two, and when it comes to hypocrisy and corruption they are the same. The only real difference is the legislation they pass just to keep their base on just a few key issues.

Oh just give it up already, you made an utterly ignorant statement, got pwned, and now you squirm both left and right to weasel your way out.

Get a little self respect, for your own sake!

Actually, admitted that I shouldn't have said that they are exactly the same in all instances, but as far as corruption and hypocrisy goes, Democrats and Republicans are the same.

Go back to playing whatever game it is that you "pwn" people in.

I have been quite consistent with my belief that Democrats and Republicans are equally hypocritical and corrupt, yet you still have to vote for the lesser of two evils when it comes to issues. Are you confused?

Wanting a bigger plane to carry her family around and taking advantage of tax payer money. There are many other planes that can take her without refueling or the high costs she's asking for.

If she's so innocent why not come clean instead of covering it up? Instead she shifts blame to somebody else.

I'm all for her having a secure flight. Just not one that has a sleeping chamber and tote around 70+ people. She shouldn't feel entitled to Air Force Pelosi 1.

Well you flip-flopped about a hundred times, so yeah it's pretty confusing. Now, since you're so sure that Dems and Repubs are equally corrupt, can you prove it? You know with some actual facts? A matrix showing corruption scandals from both parties over the last 10 years would be a good start. Compare/contrast.

I never "flip-flopped", I made a blanket statement and assumed that people would understand what I meant, obviously Dems and Repubs are not exactly the same on the key issues that keep their base happy.

No, of course I don't have some ridiculous matrix. Do you go around asking all of the liberals for a matrix showing how horrible and dirty the Republicans are compared to the Democrats? I have seen plenty of posts about how much worse Republicans are than Democrats, have you asked any of them for "A matrix showing corruption scandals from both parties over the last 10 years would be a good start. Compare/contrast."?

did the Seargent at Arms threaten the Pentagon or was Murtha doing it on his behalf?

funny how the White House has been in corner through most of this, but the press and several members of both parties went off on wildly different directions. Especially Republicans ranting about abuse of power only to have Murtha threaten the pentagon by claiming Pelosi held their purse strings.

Neither side is sane

Name ONE that can make a non-stop transcontinental hop. Unless you're an aviation expert with an intimate knowledge of the capabilities of all available aircraft in the Air Force's inventory, you're blowing smoke out of your ass.
If she's so innocent why not come clean instead of covering it up? Instead she shifts blame to somebody else.
Blame??? For what??? As others have pointed out, Pelosi did NOT request the plane. It was the plane the House security chief provided.
I'm all for her having a secure flight. Just not one that has a sleeping chamber and tote around 70+ people. She shouldn't feel entitled to Air Force Pelosi 1.
Clue -- Pelosi is second in line of accession to the Presidency, right behind a bozo with bad aim who's had four heart attacks and whose name keeps coming up in high profile in Scooter Libby's criminal trial. Her personal security is mandated under Federal laws enacted since 9-11.

Considering how piss poorly the Bushwhackos have done in implementing the vast majority of recommended actions to improve homeland security, maybe, instead of pissing and moaning about the size of the plane the security experts provided for Pelosi, you should be waving the flag and cheering that at least ONE government agency got at least ONE of their tasks right. :p

This stuff is in response to the threat from terror, and I doubt that they will be permanent. The Dems are trying to make laws controlling what we can eat, do in our cars, do in private establishments, etc..

Being told that I cannot talk on my cellphone in my car, because some people are too stupid to multitask, is just the beginning. Not being alllowed to smoke in a privately owned building (no I don't smoke) is just the beginning. Or how about in NYC, trying to outlaw Ipods and cellphones when you are crossing the street? I don't think that we even have to debate the point of Democrats raising taxes.
Aww.... If you want to wrap yourself around some phone pole during some nanosecond of distraction, you'll be contributing to cleaning up the gene pool, and we'll nominate you for a Darwin award. You've exceeded your right to your egocentric self indulgence about the time your stupidity involves anyone else... EVER!

If that's your biggest complaint about government, you haven't been paying attention to the thousands of Americans who've died and the tens of thousands of wounded in the war of lies your Idiot In Chief started in Iraq. You've also missed their gross incompetence in dealing with homeland security and every other domestic issue of importance to the American public.

Of course if it were Denny (H) that were requesting the plane, they'd be A-OK with it (and most likely would be whining that people don't respect the office he holds, blah blah). They're just mad that Nancy Pelosi doesn't want to be in a glider or ultralight plane that they could more easily shoot down :D

Well, reading this thread reminds how much "the worm has turned".

Used to be Dem/Libs accusing and the Repubs/Conserv on the defensive. It's completely flip-flopped now.
