dual-click 6-loading the rocket launcher (for the spiral effect) while running around aimlessly in deck16 was major ownage.

Missed this one:(. Again, was kinda poor with a crappy computer when Unreal came out and the 3 years following. Although it looked cool, it never really drew my interest and still doesn't. I'd like to try it, but it's too late now (read: graphics suck).

I just stated playing Operation: Na Pali and it is a lot of fun and done well.

My only complaint with ONP is that the voice acting kinda sucked :p

Are you playing with the high-res textures as well? I think it'll make the game look even more amazing.

As Synthdude said, it's a very nice campaign, but it's voice acting is just plain out goofy. But it's still enjoyable

Graphics don't suck at all with the new textures, which are more high res than most of todays games. I play it on 2048x1536 with AA and it looks awesome. It's like playing Oblivion with Quarl's Texture Pack, the difference really is that big. You should also get the new OpenGL renderer, which improves just about everything in addition to allowing use of the 2048x2048 textures.

The voice acting sounds like a bunch of us here got together and read from a script and had a hard time keeping a straight face.
That being said it did not detract from being able to enjoy the game.

Evil, I'm running it in 1600x1200 using d3d. It looks great!
Should I use/get "new" open gl renderer?
Is there one just for UT/OPN/
Where?
Thanks,
Pendragon

Just a few I happened to have in my pics.bbzzdd account already. Not the greatest shots, but should give you an idea.
Edit: A few seem to be really dark too. I don't feel like taking new screenshots and uploading them right now :p
Edit2: I should mention that this isn't exactly a "texture pack" (although I believe there are new community packs in progress). This is just a straight conversion of the high-res S3TC textures included on the second CD of the UT GOTY edition, IIRC. As you will notice in the screenshots, not every texture is updated, but it is a substantial portion of them.

I can probably answer this one...which renderer are you using right now? If you haven't upgraded from the stock ones that came with the game, you should definitely get the new one. This guy has made substantial updates to the OpenGL renderer for UT, and has a D3D8 version available too (I use the D3D8 version as it's faster on my old 9700 Pro).

For the original Unreal, oldunreal.com has a multimedia patch for both Unreal and UT that adds OpenAL support (which is awesome) and OpenGL renderers (quite a bit older than the latest UTGLR releases though). For Unreal you can either use the OpenGL renderer from that patch, or - I actually built the latest UT D3D8 renderer for Unreal, which is what I personally use. Any of the "updated" renderers should be mostly similar in performance/options though (unless you have an old video card with sketchy OpenGL performance like me [/i])

Actually, the Unreal community has developed additional S3TC textures that were left unfinished by Epic, which converted about 1/3 of the total textures in the game to high res. You can find the ones made by the community here if your using Unreal, or if your using Unreal Tournament, then download the packages listed here

They're pretty much trying to finish the job Epic started. Eventually they want to go and update the skins on the models also. Till then, enjoy whats available to download.

Do you mean the S3TC ones from the second UT CD? I tried those but they made the game look totally off.

I think Epic made a mistake in UT 2003/2004 (and UT3 as well) when they axed the 6-rocket launcher in favor of a 3-rocket launcher.

I loaded up both of the new drivers for UT, thank you EvilComputer92.
Tried the d3d and the opengl and ended up liking the opengl one although both look great.
I actually get faster fps with the open gl driver over the d3d[ 230+fps vs 100+fps ] with my 7600GT and it looks a little better to me than in d3d mode.
I just finished Medal Of Honor Airborne and am working through Bioshock but these old school games with a fresh look are great too.

I remember struggling to get 40fps @1280x1024 with my P2450 and TNT 16mb card when UT first came out.:)

What do mean by totally off? As in different? Or just not working? They should appear like the ones in the shots that SynthDude2001 posted. I think it looks the game look way better. Are you also using the Enhanced OpenGL driver or Direct3D8 Renderer? You need one of them to get S3TC textures to work properly.

Agreed. The 6 barreled rocket launcher was way better. Thats why I like UT99 much better. The weapons just seem underpowered in UT2004

Hope you enjoy them. The OpenGL one is slightly more developed than the D3D8 one right now, so it probably does look a bit better.

I played Unreal first on a Voodoo3 3000 at 800x600. I was so amazed at everything in the game.

I loved that level.

Face Classic still seems to be to most popular ctf map on Ut2004, guess it due to it's unique design. I always liked CTF-Nucleus for Capture the Flag.

The textures they replace often look nothing like the originals. As an example the outside of the Vortex Rikers has a grey and blue colour as opposed to its original brown colour.

Are you also using the Enhanced OpenGL driver or Direct3D8 Renderer?
Yes; I even ran the conversion utility on the textures like instructed.

It looks like this on mine.
That looks nice (and much different to mine).

Are you running the textures from the second UT CD or are you using the four S3TC texture packs available online?

LOL, I'm a nub, I forgot to enable the S3TC flag. It works now.

Do the four texture packs online improve the situation enough over the textures from the second CD to warrant a download?

What is this second cd you all talk about? I ahve the single cd (unreal gold)? Graphics are pretty good for the age but now you all have me thinking i might as well update it - is there a single link for everything needed ? (also do i just need opengl or openal or direct3d)? Alas there were so many links in this thread i've bcome confused as to what is what :)

I was always partial to the Razor Jack myself, but the 8-ball was pretty cool. :)
