Do the four texture packs online improve the situation enough over the textures from the second CD to warrant a download?

Very much so. In fact, they finish many textures that epic left unfinished. Almost 90% of the game is now in High Resolution. I think it warrants another play through in fact!

What is this second cd you all talk about? I ahve the single cd (unreal gold)? Graphics are pretty good for the age but now you all have me thinking i might as well update it - is there a single link for everything needed ? (also do i just need opengl or openal or direct3d)? Alas there were so many links in this thread i've bcome confused as to what is what :)

Unreal Tournament had a second cd.

If you don't have the second cd that came with Unreal Tournament, you can just download all the texture packs online made by the community. They include all high resolution textures. You can get the individual texture files from here
for the original unreal. You need a different set of files if your using Unreal Tournament with the oldskool single player mod however, here

most of the texture developments are over on oldunreal, so there might be some updated packages

I was always partial to the Razor Jack myself, but the 8-ball was pretty cool. :)

My favorite was always the flak cannon

BTW, to everyone who is playing through Unreal Tournament, The settings for the enhanced OpenGL driver are over at the utglr homepage, so make sure you have the respective options enabled in your unrealtournament.ini file.

Yea the music is good - but i prefer farcry's gameplay. The ability to use sound and an explict use key (as oppose to 'running over/upto' buttons (this is one reason i prefer half-life2 to doom3). I like the idea of 'traps' (haven't seen any of these games use traps) where walking onto a pressure plate or covered pit == problem - but for levers i prefer to be explict when i use it :)

Just a matter of preference - the map itself is pretty nice (haven't played in years - almost done). Hum. I wonder what this round of fps will bring - btw is quakewars single player or just multi-players ?

I think there is a site where you can get all the music streaming.

Dude, those screenshots badly need some AA. :p

I'm running with 8xS now, forgot about that.

I just remembered... I let those 6 fly in some random direction across the map and seconds later I'd get a kill message. It was just too funny. Of course the best was when you timed someone coming around a door and they barely had time to even see shit coming at them... man such good times. I never had the same feeling with UT2003/4.

I loved Unreal's death messages, not too many modern games have those, it's just x was killed by y with weapon z

I died. I was hopping around on a table in the temple and next thing i know I managed to hop off a small crater. Guess there was a very deep hole in the table.

I have Unreal Tournament GOtY 2 CD set. Can I play the original Unreal through that mod without having to buy anything? Does anyone know if this will run on a GMA950 mobile intel chipset ( Core Duo 1.73 ghz 1g ram ) laptop. If so, I think I just found my new lunch time habit.

You need the original Unreal as well, since it contains all the maps and music and sounds. I think you can get Unreal, it's expansion, and UT GoTY for about 5 bucks. It should run just fine on that laptop, as long as you don't use any high res textures.

It is the level before the demon - one sec let me lookup the map name: Nali Castle - i think it was the room that had two seeds on the table.

yeah U2 did suck. the weapons were decent though - assault rifle, rocket launcher, grenade launcher, and flamethrower.

unreal 2 has one of the best flamethrowers evar.

Now go play Return to Na Pali.
Either that or one of the map packs I mentioned 50 posts above.

Are any of the maps you mentioned before worth playing ? I don't mind downloading one or two but don't want to spend all day downloading something that well kinda sucks :(

Well, if you have Unreal Tournament installed
these are my top picks

7 Bullets takes the cake for I think the best one. If you played Unreal, you simply must play this as it's amazing how far they took the original Unreal Engine.

Operation: Na Pali is a enormous 40 map single player saga. It's level design is awesome in some areas though it's full of silly jokes which detract from it's otherwise excellent atmosphere.

7 Bullets is much shorter, but in the end a much better map pack. I reccommend it over Operation Na Pali.

Unfortunately not. Just play Return to Na Pali as it should have come with Unreal gold, it's the official expansion pack for Unreal and there should be an option in the menu to play it.
