I've got some happy pills that can address that depressing feeling if you're interested.

I try to stay away from that stuff, who knows how bad it'll mess me up. When I have a rough time at work I just turn to good old tried and true booze.

Can you explain how something that they feel improves their life and doesn't effect you is depressing? Guess they should just suck it up and live how you think they should?

Its unfortunate that so many people are dependent on anti-depressants to feel good.

What happened to good old fashion codependency and relying solely on other people's comments to dictate one's happiness and self-worth?

The idea that people who are mental ill suffer from a lack of willpower or character is absurd.

There is always alcoholism.

That wasn't my intention, but if its funny I'll own it.

If there's a drug you can take to solve a specific problem of yours, I say why not? So long as you understand the side effects and risks. And if your doctor prescribes you a drug, I'd still say you should look into it first, especially about withdrawl symptoms. Topics on paxil have been posted before. Also the size of the dose does affect withdrawl. I don't know the specifics about paxil but hayabusa may be right, and you might've done well on 10 or 20mg and not 50mg.

i was on paxil for 4 years. helped my social anxiety but in the first couple of months gained 10 lbs, then eventually wound up gaining like 40 more.

now i'm off of it, but it took a couple of weeks for the little brain zaps to go away. now anxiety is back DAMNIT

I neglected to use a smiley emoticon since I was jesting, but I am tired of people telling me that they are dependent upon mood altering drugs. If you need a cocktail or smoke after work to unwind, I'm okay with that. I am concerned about clinically depressed individuals who are hooked on prescribed drugs who are not in counseling to work through their issues.

No. And I don't think I fit the profile.

Although I could have multiple personality and my other personality could be bipolar. :p

Good. Some BiPolars have a similar attitude concerning their Medication. However, when they quit to become "normal", often the Police get called because they've stripped in Public and/or have done something so bizarre that people don't know what else to do.

Sometimes people don't have issues, rather the depression causes them. We're talking depression here in the clinical sense, not "Gee, I didn't get the car in the color I like, let's have a pill.

I remember 50mg of Zoloft. All it did was make me sleep more and not care what I do. Bascially if I hit some in the face I would laugh.

Fair enough, it came across a little differently.

Different people react differently to SSRI's. There is a genetic test you can take to see how you possibly might react. Useful to know if you're taking the things.

Search for Cytochrome P450.

Like everything in the universe, it's controversial.

My dad went on Paxil once and he said it was like an acid trip and it scared the shit out of him. Zoloft worked and he only went on temporarily. Myself, I went on Prozac one time when I was fairly young and it helped me out (though it may have just been a maturity issue that I naturally grew out of). I don't want to go back on any of that stuff again, though.

It is sad that doctors will prescribe powerful drugs at the drop of the hat. It is even more sad that people will take them.

50mg is a huge dose. Paxil is now an old med, there are much betters SSRIs out there with much fewer side effects, such as Lexipro and Celexa. When your on any of these meds, it is important to slowly drop the dosage over a period of time for your body to adjust. Cold turkey is not the answer. Getting off Paxil is known to give people the "zaps" when they go cold turkey.
