What's the point of this thread? Jealousy?

Who cares what someone buys for a vehicle or how that person operates it? OP, are you going to next cry about people having pickups and daring to drive them with the bed empty?

If we could just get more rich dorks in their fancy epeen mobiles to drive fast the pleebs in speedy civics would go unnoticed by the local constabulary.

I went 180mph down the highway, killed a family but luckily I can afford the insurance and lawyer. The OP has motivated me to be a reckless prick.

driving fast on the highway is stupid and expensive, be prepared to lawyer up. in my younger days I once got a ticket for 102mph, ended up costing me something like $1.7K after paying the lawyer and going to traffic school. I do not recommend this and was very lucky that there were not more serious consequences.

These days I just take it to the track, I actually set my car to beep at me when I exceed 81mph now.

(me at Laguna Seca - 991 Carrera S)

Correct

And racing LEGALLY is extremely expensive and risky. You know the old saying "if you can't push your car off the cliff, don't race it"

If you got the dough, more power to you.

If you got the douche, more power to you.

Fixed for street racing

I was gonna say this.

First we have a thread where people bitch about truck owners (assuming they never use it for anything other than commuting), now this thread.

What the hell has happened to The Garage???

The argument of just having the power there and available is the stupidest argument. If you're not using it, don't bother having it. It has massive drawbacks to have all that power just sitting there all the time without ever using it.

Power isn't really about top end. A 3 cylinder Geo Metro will probably do close to 100mph...

It's about the acceleration, something that doesn't often get displayed on the freeway.

But onramps are fun, for about three seconds.. :awe:

Almost any modern car will easily go fast enough to get your license suspended. I'm not sure why you expect someone in a sports car to always be flying, especially in traffic on the highway. I will occasionally apply liberal amounts of throttle when passing if the situation dictates it and it's safe to do so (generally so I'm not next to an 18 wheeler for a long time or something like that). I typically have my cruise control set at 8-9 mph over the speed limit on the highway. The difference between going 78 mph in a 70 mph zone and 90 mph doesn't do anything for me in either of my cars. 90 mph is a joke in a straight line. If I'm going to brake the law, I'm doing well into the triple digits.... not "just fast enough to not be passed by a piece of shit civic." I'm also not doing that when the risk of a ticket is high or the risk of hurting someone else is there.

There is something pretty awe inspiring about a civic or Nissan versa going 100+ on the freeway. Go little car, go!

I drive slow these days, mainly because I have kids and I drive a Charger in the exact color all the undercover state troopers drive here so even if I wanted to drive fast everybody is terrified of me and I end up stuck behind a wall of people driving below the speed limit. At night, the gap that forms behind me is impressive.

I'm not saying my Charger is a fancy super awesome racecar or anything, so please don't think I'm suggesting that. It's my daily driver/family sedan.

Heh I've never understood people wanting to drive ex-cruiser Crown Vics/etc. It's a pain in the ass driving a CV...everybody's slow around you.

Your mind would be blown at all of the old asian ladies with E63's, S63's that drive 65 mph exactly on the freeway.

I see them every fucking day and it drives me nuts. The last S63 AMG I saw though was a bit more nippy but it was driven by the king of douches too.

A Focus ST is no GTR but I like to think I get about as much out of it as can be gotten on the streets safely and (mostly) legally. I'm certainly not flooring it away from every light, but I get going fairly briskly to try and beat the next one. There's a particularly fun right hand turn onto a service road that immediately turns into an onramp that I take every day, and a 180 bend from a service road onto an onramp that I go a little out of my way to hit some of the time.

I've never initiated any sort of race, but I had two guys one night after another try a mph roll with me. One guy in a tuner 90s civic, another guy in a veloster. I won both, despite staying in 3rd with the veloster when I should have dropped to 2nd. I still see the veloster guy pretty often, he leaves me alone.

That said I think if you have a car with launch control, you should be required to use it every time. I don't want to hear complaints about your clutch either, you probably have two anyways
