That's the minimum speed you should be doing in a gtr. Why bother buying one otherwise?

If it's a BMW or Porsche, then I will always take the time to spank them. However, if it's something more interesting, like a MB 190E, Yaris, Versa, etc., then I will make it seem like I'm trying, but will always let them win. I think it's funny that those guys will attempt it so they should be rewarded. Plus, I get a kick out of imagining them trying to convince their friends that they beat a GT-R in their POS.

Performance cars are status symbols. It's all about talking about how fast your car is, not racing it. It's also a demonstration of wealth, a presentation of your buying power with having to be so crass as to talk about how much money you make.

His commute is under a mile and he's going up to 80? Sounds like he accelerates a lot more than necessary to get there

You're really putting too much assumption into what people with these cars do. What I see is people going slow in them.

Well, the Aventador, Huracan, and the MP4-12C in my building go once a month or so, and the GT-R (has a chute on it) and GT500 are both at the drag strip every weekend. Funny enough, the 911 is the only one I think doesn't occasionally make it to the track, but he's a doctor and has weird hours.

I have no beef with people driving responsibility and legally on the roads (in whatever cars).

I also don't have beef with people buying cars that do 0-60 in 1 second and tickle their balls while doing so.

I find #2 to be more pathetic though.

I visit my local race track quite often and I don't see many people with these sorts of cars (usually 1 out of 30-40 cars) and they never come back.

People buy things to impress other people, simple as that.

Correct, but most hardly EVER do that.

If people with performance cars races in AutoX and Race tracks etc, you would have one on every corner.

Most do it on the street (illegally) or don't do it at all. Either one defeats the purpose of buying such machines....but whatever floats their boat.

Many also do it legally with clubs specifically for exotics and you wouldn't seem them on the track on "normal" track days or during HPDEs.

WTF are you talking about? Have you ever been? What kind of car do your run?

I don't know anyone that street races, but I personally know dozens of guys that run on the track or autocross. I see hundreds of them at every event.

Street racing is dangerous and just plain stupid.

I have seen four GTR's locally. Three of them were at the racetrack. My bet is that they too drive at the speed limit on the public road home.

driving fast on the highway is stupid and expensive, be prepared to lawyer up. in my younger days I once got a ticket for 102mph, ended up costing me something like $1.7K after paying the lawyer and going to traffic school. I do not recommend this and was very lucky that there were not more serious consequences.

These days I just take it to the track, I actually set my car to beep at me when I exceed 81mph now.
