On principle, I don't see the parents' stunt being very effective. However, the kids might get enough sh!t in school about it from their peers that they might cave in....and when they do they'll probably get even MORE sh!t from their peers.

Anyway, whatever happened to just beating out-of-line children? :p

Have you tried an a$$ whupping when they fail to do their chores? It always motivated me when I didn't do my chores.

hitting a child is assult(techinicallytechinically)=child abuse welcome to america

Welcome to my world of discpline. You live under my roof, follow my rules, and do as I say. Don't do your chores, you're going to get a paddlin'. It worked for me, it worked for my parents, my grandparents, their parents, or so on.

yes what you do may work till one of your child tells a friend in classroom about how your discipline her and teacher over hears the converation at which time they are require by law to contact child protection agency if they it's a sign of child abuse.

That's awesome. Shouldn't take long to crack them, I mean, that kid looks really baked and up against the smell of BBQ, one can only hold out so long.

This is some great logic. Let's keep it going.

They didn't have none of them fancy computers when I was a kid. In fact we didn't have that there internets or that fancy chattin stuff. We didn't have no calculator neither.

So you can make your kids write out their english papers and do their calculus by hand. Meanwhile, I am going to live in the present and find a modern way to deal with kids. Oh yeah, and that is without hitting them. If you have to raise you hand to a 12 year old girl there is something wrong with YOU.

Benjamin, 17, and Kit, 12 ? until they shape up.

So basically the kids were already doing all of the work, and when they refused, the parents went on strike - what is it they are not doing that they weren't already not doing before?

I'm not defending the kids, no, but I can't take the parents side on this without more info. For a few years of my life I had a step-mother who made us do all of the chores when we got home from school, while she spent the day cozy on the couch drinking Squirt and watching soap operas. We didn't earn allowance or anything, which is fine, but she wasn't working or helping with the chores.
I have to second this general opinion. There isn't any reasonable opinion that can be drawn from this story, since the situation can be screwed up in either direction.

Let me spell out what will happen to these parents

1) Concern citizen be it parents, teacher etc will contact child protection agency and file complain alleging that they feel this is child abuse.

2) Child protection agency respond to investigate the complain and the determines that house is hazard to kids health and takes them away from parents

3) Parents may get arrested by police for child abuse, cps and police call.
4) Let?s assume they don't get arrested and just get notice to appear
5)hearing will be before a judge on condition in the house and they will be ordered to pay fine and clean up the house by certain date or get even more fine etc.(they will be represented by public defender if state has them, and if they qualify by income other wise they need to hire a lawyer)
5) During the time all of this going on with parents kids get appointed legal guardian, his job is to look out for the good of the kids.
6) Parents clean up the house and pay the fine.
7) Parents lawyer petition the court to return kids back to them
8) Child protection agency checks the house for condition
9) Hearing before judge on what child protection agency finds at which time child guardian will also speak and give his opinion if child should be returned to them, 17 year old can make his own decision as he is old enough.
10) Court will decide if full custody should be given back to the parents etc.

I was raised like this, my parents were raised like this. I'm not some druggy, i'm not a mischievous kid. I did well in school, and have the upmost respect for my parents.

I will raise my kid the same way as my parents raised me. it has worked for generations, so i'm not going to stop it.

Expression, what are you trying to get at? All 5 of your posts have been basically rehashing(with sometimes poor grammer, bt the way) that they'll get nailed by Protective Services for this. Do you have personal experience with this, or what? It all seems very FUDish.

Wow I must be an exception. I was only hit as a kid once(That was for calling my Mom a B!tch, and I deserved). I have become a productive member of society. I pay taxes, have a job, pay rent, and have a girlfriend. Meanwhile, after I get done teaching I go tutor at-risk kids because their sorry puke of a Dad decided to beat the crap out of them cause their room wasn't clean when he got home. I will say this one more time for the cheap seats

heh did you even read the article? Police and such have ALREADY been there and concluded nothing is wrong.

First off i have worked with DCFS for close to 10 years. My in-laws have worked with them for over 20. so yes i do have some background as with such stuff.

Again having a dirty house will NOT get the kids taken away. Espially when its the kids refusing to clean up after themselves.

The court will NOT take the kids with a first offence (no child was harmed. again a dirty house is NOT child abuse). So NONE of what you say will happen. NO hearing no taking the children no decision who will have custody.

IT is VERY hard to take the children away from parents when no ABUSE or major neglect is happening. THIS is not nelgect. this is trying to teach them to grow up.

Good for the parents, sounds like they tried everything else. Kids should be the ones outside but ya can't do that unfortunately.

Agreed. Mathlete, I got my butt beat every time I screwed up as a kid. Mouth washed out with soap, sent to my room, privileges taken away. Abuse? Hell, no. Grown up now, I see I deserved nearly all of it. And hell, what do you know, I am almost as good as you, just don't have my head stuck in the clouds near as far.

I take offense in you calling my parents rednecks, morons, or sick. They got the message across, and I am a better man for it.

Oh, and one other thing. Don't sit behind a keyboard and act like a bada$$. You want to stop child abusers, go to the academy.

2) May not be legal? Says who? If you don't leave marks it's only their word against yours. You can beat a kid without leaving evidence. In fact this is the only proper way. You're not trying to abuse them just punish them you don't want to leave marks anyway. You don't want to permanently scar them, just get them to shape up that's all.

6) Spend a lot of money? You have to spend money to raise kids anyway might as well do it right or it's not worth doing at all.
