The scary part about Nazism, Racism, and Terrorism is that all lie within ourselves. But when a society becomes so rotten and is propped up by overwhelming force, even ordinary people will band together and seek to tear down the evil empire. So its was with the founding fathers of the USA, so it was with the mujaheddin in Afghanistan, and so it is all over the world, past, present, and I dare say far into the future. Even in Hollywood pop culture, movies like Red Dawn glorify the terrorism that would happen in the USA if the Russians took over the USA. In short, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. And its time to ask, even in a time when some cry they will get my gun, when they pry it from my cold dead fingers, what would it take for you to become a terrorist? And at what point would you decide there is no hope for the present government meaning it must be torn down because it can't be fixed? And if our government were to become almost totally Nazi, I would hope many of you would make the decision the German people did not in 1937 or so.
Having said that, maybe we can now go back and revisit what was going on in the mind of very young Ayers, a man of ability and intelligence, in the the late 1960's. As a racist and rapidly going Nazi US government were drafting almost all black men to fight in an unpopular quagmire in Vietnam, using them like Canon fodder, as inner city infrastructures crumbled. Granted, what Ayers did then was illegal, but he took part in criminal acts that did have an end effect of ending the draft and firing a shot across the bow of a government descending into stupidity. And Ayers, was caught, ended up serving time in prison, and he paid his debt to society.
Maybe some on this board think that today's solution is better, and Ayers should have been sent to Gitmo, and never allowed out of prison. And we should have done the same to all critics of the war like Jane Fonda, the Chicago 7, Dr. Spock, the NYT when they released the Pentagon Papers, and especially rascals like Dr. Martin Luther King and everyone else committing acts of social disobedience.
Well it turns out that time in prison did give Mr. Ayers time to reflect. And he evidently decided there was hope for this government after all, the anti thesis of terrorism, and he has gone on to become a productive member of society and a highly respected Educator. And Mr. Ayers is now building up our country and not tearing it down. And Mr. Ayers also has every right to be politically active, and he and many, many, many,
others happen to see Barack Obama as having the right stuff.
Maybe others see McCain as being the one who happens to have more of the right stuff, that is your right, but anyone who thinks Barack Obama is discredited by any association with Ayers, is, IMHO, a total idiot.
