Sarah Palin will not run for president. She made the announcement in a letter to supporters Wednesday night.

Read Palin’s letter here:

October 5, 2011
Wasilla, Alaska
After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order.

My decision is based upon a review of what common sense Conservatives and Independents have accomplished, especially over the last year. I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office – from the nation’s governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency. We need to continue to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the “fundamental transformation” of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based on the rule of law.

From the bottom of my heart I thank those who have supported me and defended my record throughout the years, and encouraged me to run for President. Know that by working together we can bring this country back – and as I’ve always said, one doesn’t need a title to help do it.

I will continue driving the discussion for freedom and free markets, including in the race for President where our candidates must embrace immediate action toward energy independence through domestic resource developments of conventional energy sources, along with renewables. We must reduce tax burdens and onerous regulations that kill American industry, and our candidates must always push to minimize government to strengthen the economy and allow the private sector to create jobs.

Those will be our priorities so Americans can be confident that a smaller, smarter government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people can better serve this most exceptional nation.

In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the President, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.

Thank you again for all your support. Let’s unite to restore this country!

God bless America.

– Sarah Palin

This is hardly a shock (and no doubt it's a relief to smart Republicans). Between this and the Christie decision not to run, it appears the field is pretty well set. At this point (admittedly fairly early) it looks like game, set and match to Romney unless something unexpected happens.

From the polling this is a relief to most Republicans. An overwhelming majority did not want her to run.

The question now. What is her next stunt to stay relevant.

I predict she'll only stay relevant if Obama wins next year. If it's a GOP win, she'll fade along with the tea party.

Bad news for dems, but I agree not in the least unexepcted.

Now who will they be able to vent their anger on?
Everytime she opened her mouth; some Dem would start quaking for fear that she might incite.

Now they have no one to rally around (against) as a prime hatred target :(

Hahaha, you think Democrats were afraid of Palin? She was the best thing that ever happened to the Democrats.

Never said they were afraid.

It was funny that every time she opened her mouth, all the Dems would immediately rush to attack her;

One should ask why she drew such attention from the Dems - probably more than she drew from the Republicans

Why did she draw any more attention than any other random republican? It probably had something to do with her.

Bad news for comedy lovers everywhere. :(

I was really looking forward to the "All Batshit Crazy ticket" with a Palin/Bachman (or Bachman/Palin) pairing.

Yawn, she could never win the primary. Does this mean the attention whore will get less coverage?

Not really surprising. Why take part in the process when you can make more money standing on the outside commenting on it. Plus it's a hell of a lot easier to spin faux "real American" yarns than to actually lead a country...

A good move. This way she can continue to attack the president and dems without worrying about political correctness. And she's a fund raising magnet and those funds from her PAC will go to a strong constitutional conservative.

Because she's a relatively public figure on the conservative side of the fence saying a lot of stupid stuff? And because her influence on the Republican party isn't quite as small as a lot of Republicans would probably prefer.

Plus she can attack Obama and the Dems without having to offer any actual ideas or plans of her own, knowing she'll never have to prove she can do better, which is always much easier than the alternative.

And much better as well. We need to stoke the hatred of this president and motivate people to save this republic by getting rid of him. Anger is a powerful emotion, and this country is downright angry at this president.

Now Palin is free to do what she always wanted, make money as a motor mouth political commentator. And as a Rush Limbaugh wanttabe, all she has to do is wait for Rush to die of natural causes, and she will be the Queen of uncontested American right wing stupidity.

And watch the money roll in, not bad for a small town girl from Wasillie, Alaska who otherwise never had any intellect. But she can surely turn a phrase, who can ever forget, drill baby drill after the BP disaster on the US gulf coast.

Only in America as a success story?

LOL, dude, there aren't any constitutional conservatives running, not too mention strong ones. Just repeating Constitution this, and Constitution that doesn't make someone a constitutional conservative.
