i have a friend that has a gigabyte GA-8PE667 that he might want to lend (or even sell) to me. anyone know the overclocking potential of this board? im wondering if i can hit 200+ FSB with this mobo and a P4m.

Rhett ~ 53*C is probably just in my case. Erik is on water and never gets that high.

Mikki ~ yea the one im using now is only 2 months old, but the P4 HSFs bend the board a good 3mm leaving the p4m out of reach of the HS :(

BigJ2078 ~ LOL :)

pr497 ~ its my understanding that i845pe boards cant go past 200fsb (could be wrong tho)

yea...the max FSB on the 8PE667 is 355 with 1MHZ steppings...but i dunno if this board has problems with agp/pci lock. perhaps i can run a few tests with my friends board just for benchmarking purposes...but i would have to talk to him 1st...

hopefully i can get my avc sunflower heatsink to make contact with the core of the P4m...otherwise ill start lapping a penny...

na, im just gonna append to this thread.....

new board is up and running.
np at all making contact with the core now ;)

@ 200fsb:
cpu idle = 29*C
board idle = 30*C

cpu p95 = 41*C
board p95 = 31*C

thats a good 8*C cooler then using the shim :Q

i also used the thermaltake tiger1 HSF on the moboard chipset this time around.

:D

Brilliant! :) ...so no shims, that's great, that Alpha go down okay then? Did you have to modify anything from how you normally do it? :)

Haha! In reguards to the Tiger, Yes, the fan is ok. I just put it on my IT7m2v2. The heatsink royally stinks!

benchmarks went up to 225fsb ~ not as far as last time for some reason
rolleye.gif

im running P95 right now @ 225fsb...
cpu = 43*C
board = 32*C

thats a 7*C drop in temps :Q

Nice...very nice :D Yeah, I'll have to rip that Tiger off mine and try again. I'd like to see some comparison scores with the heat/board difference....

Asus board temps are just that ~ board temps, not chipset temps.
a 3*C difference can be a big problem.

thx Technonut :D
