No comment, eh? :D

I think I'm finally up 'against the wall' on my mobo, 14.5 friggin' MHz short of 4.0G on air -- not the CPUs fault! It's willing, but...

Oh, well, I'll keep trying, however... once again... 3.8G'ish rock-solid, benchmark stable, seems to be the sweet spot!

Anyone that can't get in the 3.7G-3.8G range with a Gallatin is doing something wrong, IMHO!

Not bad for a 3-year old setup, albeit state-of-the-art...

Bwahahaha!

Thanks!

You dah man!!! :D

really .... not bad at all !

... and even though i *settled* for 3.74G ... i am totally happy with my mini-upgrade ... just before i checked in, i came out of Oblivion's SI ... playing for hours - fluidly - with completely maxed out settings [HDR] at 14x9 ... and my EE finally settled down in the mid-60sC under heaviest load

You already know this, but... you need a better cooler! ;)

I've never gone past 50C, running Orthos for hours on end... and that's at 3/4 speed (1750 RPM) on my Tuniq!

If I could figure out why my P4B800E isn't getting my voltage increases to the CPU, I could go a LOT higher.....based on my low temp with full load.....arggggggg. I can't seem to find anything on the web about the "problem" either.

i went from 2.80c @ 3.31Ghz ... a lbit less than your 3.6 Prescott

i was getting 6,000 in 3DMark05 with it and x850xt ... 6500 with 7800GS OC

going to x1950p/512M with that *same* oc'd 2.80c got me 8,000

simply upgrading to 3.4EE @ 3.74 gets me 9280 ... and FEAR is finally playable at 14x9 with no FPS below 25 :)

i think that P4 "bottleneck" thread by Paratus in Video also showed some more powerful and less powerful CPUs with the x1950p

Total scores remain around 6500. Dunno aboot CPU scores. But see, the 1950 is a diff'rent grranimal than the 7600/7800/850 and can actually benefit from a few hundred more MHz, nevermind the greater cache of the EE over the C. Indeed, I'm guessing performance would continue to scale up beyond the EE's limits (I don't just mean on diff'rent tech like C2D, but even say a theoretical* 3.4EE @ 4.0 vs 3.7.

* Keep the faith VinDSL ;)

The upper end CPU's for a given socket always fetch a premium once discontinued. While at least before then they often don't fetch much more than lower-end ones since those are more desirable for overclocking and thus actually faster.

Just searched the Orb db and the only P4 7600GT combos getting even 6600 have mad GPU oc's closer to 700 than 600Mhz (stock is 560).

what i AM saying Auric is that you *should* be getting well over 9K with a OC'd EE and a stock x1950p/512M

and yes ... Stumps is getting about 12K with his x1950p and his C2D

but why are you getting only 6500 ... x1950p and 3.4EE, right??

Hi guys new to the forums here... Just wondering what you guys get along the lines of 3dmark06. I was getting 3900 with my EVGA 7800gs oc (430/1200) @ (525/1490) and the 3.7 from my desc... im gettin 4690 now with this XFX 7950GT 512MB i just got this morning... havent tweaked my sys all the way yet but im just wondering if it's got the bang for the nvidia buck i needed. What are people with pci-e and single core extremes gettin with 7950's? my friend has a 3ghz@4ghz p4 on skt775 w/7800GT pci-e and hes gettin around 4k in 3dmark06... BTW the 3.4 EE @ 3706 wipes the floor with his P4 Prescott 3ghz 1MB 775 @ 4Ghz

What's the best air cooling solution for the 3.4ee? I have an IC7-max3 mobo and after upgrading to this processer my temps have risen considerably. I have an older style thermalright slk-900 and it doesnt seem to be doing the job very well.

clock @ 3.4
According to everest, idle is : 52c under load it starts to creep to 60c

of course, it's 84F in the house :p

Tuniq Tower 120 FTW!!!

Here's my P4 3.4EE cooler...

Sexy too, yes? :D

If you'll look carefully, you can see the 120mm fan sticking out the bottom of the Tuniq.

This fans helps cool the passive NB & MOSFET sinks too!

Pushing 4.0GHz, I've never gone over 50C! No kidding...

At 3.4GHz, CPU temp is about the same as the mobo temp...

I don't know why these things work so good, but they do -- I got two of them... :)

Great info! Thanks for the information and the pictures. Feedback from both of you is appriciated.

The only thing i worry about is fitting that thing inside my case. It does look very nice though.

I wonder if it would fit on an Abit IC7-Max3 . The abit has the OTES cooling system and the plastic shroud might get in the way..

How noisy is it?

What do you guys think about the Titan Vanessa L-Type cooler?

Tuniq Towers sit high!

Here's my DFI LanParty Pro 875B

Pipes aren't close to touching anything & you can barely see the fins...

I can't imagine a Tuniq Tower 120 causing a problem with any mobo... ;)

If i'm able to use an air cooling solution then Tuniq Towers it is.

I think that the new GeCube x1950xt i put in is generating too much heat. The card run's at 50-56c using ATI-Tool but the extra heat is being funneled into the cpu fan intake. I think this is what is causing the cpu temperatures to climb. I might have to find a good water cooling solution. ugh..

EVERYONE who comes to this forum MUST know about this page @ overclockers.com

http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/p4sum.asp

from the evidence you can see that thermalright is hands down the undisputed best. they hold the top5 rank solid, thats a very respectable track record. i wouldnt go with the ultra 120 its huge go with the xp-90c

GOTO www.heatsinkfactory.com !!!! this is the ONLY source for heatsinks almost half the cost of newegg and awesome shipping always same day.

Thermalrights are okay too, I guess.

You just gotta replace them a lot, trying to keep up the same ol' Tuniq Tower 120...

How can this be? :D

thanks .. i will have fun ... my entire weekend is now scheduled for a new build :p

damn Abit MB ... until it crapped out Monday ... i had ZERO intention of "upgrading"

but since i am *forced* to ... it is a very cheap upgrade indeed to C2D/ASrock MB/DDr2
--i figure 'net $35' after selling my P4EE and PC 3500
:cool:;

--This was one hell of a fun thread [for me] and i really like my EE ... pretty special old girl

Personally, I keep a backup mobo, just in case... :D

Don't get me wrong!

I don't have a backup DFI LanParty Pro 875B mobo -- but I do have a backup FOR my LanParty mobo?

If my LanParty dies, I have a brand new, unused, Abit VT7 sitting in the closet!

An Abit VT7 is NO Abit IC7 Max3 -- but, it WILL keep you going, in an emergency!

If I was you, that's what I would do... :)
