Nice work on the OC's Thugs 🙂. Perhaps I will purchase some better memory so I may start fooling around. I have been using AMD processors and their FSB does not go that high unless I demultiply it. Personally I do not like it that much. I think they should go high on their stock multiplier or higher.

My BE7-R just shipped out today along with the CPU. Now I will see how fresh MWaves stock of CPU's are. Back from the Celeron and Duron days... it has been my experience that they are quite old. However I am hoping for the best.

You mind PM'ing or e-mailing with detailed instructions on how to sand the CPU such as how you position it as to not sand one side sown further than the other... etc.. etc.. (I do not say lapping because that requires machineing tools which are not being used.)
 
well 145 only went 7 hrs on Prime95, so I bumped vcore to 1.6 and set fsb to 150, Prime is still running now after 2hrs..max 48'c
 
Hey Thugs, first of all thanks for the many ultra-informative posts - good stuff! I just received a C1 stepping (SL6LA) 1.8A in a Dell budget box that I ordered for my parents, and I'm going to switch out my current 1.8A with this new C1. The 1.8A that's currently in my rig does a rock-solid 2.4GHz, but won't move much past that even with added vcore so I run 133 FSB for perfect stability and good temps. When I first popped it in, I went right to 2.4GHz on my 4G4A+ with no problems - didn't even try a lesser FSB, just went straight for my goal of 2.4GHz. My question is this - should I try a burn-in with this new C1 chip at lower FSB speeds or just go directly for my goal - a FSB of 150MHz (2.7GHz)? I'm not sure if it makes a difference to burn it in gradually or just go for broke. Any input would be greatly appreciated, and I'll let you know the max FSB that I'm able to hit. Thanks!

If your goal is 150MHz FSB, I pity you! You should go for at least 170MHz FSB for 3.06GHz. That would rule. Actually, I'm sure you could accomplish that rather easily... You don't need to burn in the CPU, it doesn't help anything, actually 😀
 
Thanks LukFilm, but I don't know if my 4G4A+ will handle 170MHz. I've read a few posts where people have had trouble getting it above the low 160's. Plus I'm limited by the retail HSF right now, but will be making the move to Zalman's new CNPS7000-cu when it's released (I like it quiet - very quiet). Of course, I'm going to push the new 1.8A as far as it will go with stock cooling and will post what I make it to. 😉
 
Well it looks like 2.88GHz is the magic number with this C1 1.8A on the 4G4A+. Had to bump vcore to 1.675 (mobo voltage monitor showed actual of 1.64~1.61 fluctuating) to get there. Temps showed 51c~52c and maxed out at about 57c after several rounds of 3Dmark2001 and UT2003 benching at 1280x960 (that Intel fan starting pumping some air let me tell ya - I'd never seen (or heard) it get above 2700rpm but it went to about 3100rpm with that much heat). I tried to get 166 FSB out of it (2.98GHz) but XP would flinch at the splash screen and the system would reboot. I even tried 1.725 vcore (mobo voltage showed actual of 1.69) but was afraid I'd fry the poor bastage if I went any further. I have a stick of Corsair XMS3200 and it's not able to reach it's potential on the 4G4A+ because it won't boot into XP at DDR400 even with SPD timings (160 FSB, 4:5 divider). I have to run it at 1:1 at 160 to get into XP but at that speed it runs peachy - even on Turbo. Right now I'm running at 133 FSB and 166 with the RAM on Turbo settings and everything is great, but if I even go to 150 FSB it isn't stable using the 4:5 divider. Just updated the bios to 1104 but it didn't help resolve the weirdness with the RAM. I even tried the stick in each slot but got the same results. So, at this point I think the mobo is holding me back. I need better cooling if I'm going to run at 2.88GHz so I may give the Alpha a shot since y'all are loving it (can't wait for the new Zalman - I'm too anxious to run the chip at 2.88 and maybe more). I'm open for recommendations on a new mobo, so let me know your thoughts. I know the chip can do 160, so I want a mobo that will let me run the XMS3200 at DDR400+. Thanks for the tips! 😀

I would get a Granite Bay mobo, then you have DCDDR 640 😀
(I think thats right 160 X 2 = 320 then 320 X 2 = 640) 😀
 
Hey Thugs, I see you're pimpin' the Abit BE7 in your sig. Is that your current board and would you recommend it?

151fsb is all its got (14hrs Prime95), 152 went for about 2 hrs with 1.71v (1.650 in bios), so Im running 151fsb@1.68v actual (1.625) in bios), 3:4 DDR403@2.5-3-3-7

Results:>
Temps:> Idle-> 32'c CPU, 26'c board, load->48'c CPU, 28'c board (1.68v vcore at idle)

At least I didnt lose anything going from 1.6a to 1.8a...still running 151fsb/DDR403.
Maybe Ill sell this one as a tested 133fsb one (custom lappped!) and look for a newer one.....
